There are some dealers that buy cars off customers that have finance on them and wait until the car is sold before clearing the finance.

Not sure but it does happen. I bought a EP3 Civic Type-R many years ago from a BCA auction the car was traded in at a maindealer that put it through the block and it was showing finance (I paid for it outright cash for it when I bought it). When I rang the auction they just yeah dont worry we will clear it once we sort out paperwork.

I reckon the garage in question were probably going to clear it once the car had been sold.

I think you've been fairly calm when dealing with these bunch of rip off merchants. I hope you get this sorted and they get f##ked over

This happened when i sold a motorbike to a dealer via webuyanybike - he paid me cash for the bike minus the finance settlement i owed saying he'd pay it off the following day, 3 weeks later he still hadn't - he waited until he'd sold the bike on before settling it

Have you raised a case with these people yet:

http://www.consumer-ombudsman.org/

Might be an idea, if you didn't mean this when you said Trading Standards?

Just to say, don't give up - you'll find a thread from me where it took 11 months to sort out, but we got our money back in the end, minus 7 months usage of the vehicle whilst we had it before the engine went bang.

I wouldn't give up,from past experience take your time buying a secondhand car,go over it in detail. As for garages etc I've taken couple places trading standards, small claims.well the first was when had powerflow exhaust fitted, and they did crap job,had nothing but hassle with the rubbers breaking, exhaust hanging loose, and started to rust around the welds.kept taking it back to them and became pain in the **** even wrote to powerflow themselves, was amazed when the guy talked to actually backed up the garage had it fitted at,but in the end got a Sebring exhaust fitted.Second when I bought a new octavia vrs that E50 problem(manufacturing fault) or whatever was called, car was three months out of warranty dealership wouldn't replace free of charge.wrote to the head management of skoda and sorted it out for me,but from start to finish taken about four months of writing back and forth to the dealership. These people though don't give a ****,because they know you'll most likely give up in the end and move on..
