Do you think alcazar Jeff came over on the same boat with Nigel Lawson from his French chateau to vote out

Or would he stuck it to his host nation by post.

Is this not part of the problem? You also currently live(ish) in the EU, so why should the same logic that you apply to the UK government not apply here? It's not too dissimilar to the relationship between a local authority and central government (just a large scale).

Because I vote for the Government of the UK based on their policies and therefore have a choice. The EU I do not vote for and have no say in what they do. I resent that immensely. That is akin to a dictatorship which the EU pretty much is in my view.

Except MEPs are elected and the prime minister sits on the European Council (as do the heads of the other member states).

You have no say in what the UK government does either. You can vote them out, but you still have no say no what the next administration does. Democracy is an illusion, it's a term bandied about, but I can't think of a single country that is actually one.

It is far from a dictatorship, though, that is just silly. No single person controls the EU, the council members, the MEPs, even the Commissioner changes, regularly, it is anything but a dictatorship.

I am off to vote after work this evening, it seems most people I have spoke to at work seem to be voting for exiting the EU.

But the UK's representatives have such a small say because if the rest of the EU members want something that benefits them our vote counts for nothing yet can directly impact us. I'm not interested in what the rest of the EU wants or what might be good for them I live in the UK and want to be governed by UK laws not what other countries think we should or shouldn't be doing through EU laws.

We're one of 28 member states, of course we only have a small say. That's how democracy works.

i think the vote depends on your line of work.

i work in engineering and a majority ive spoken to want out.

but a few of my friends who work in banking or estate agency want in because it benefits them.

its about a 50/50 split which the poles seem to suggest to.

its going to be a close one but i think we will stay in sadly.

And my personal view is I want nothing to do with it hence voting leave. I will say it again, i'm not interested in what might be best for Germany or France or any other country I don't live there and couldn't give a pig's ar$e what is best for them. I want what is best for the UK and that means stopping having the EU telling us what we can and can't do.

To be honest, I was surprised to find a pencil waiting for me in the booth. It did have me wondering a little.

Just as a complete aside, this business about Turkey. From what I gather this free movement doesn't extend to UK and NI. Also, interesting to some maybe, non EU countries use Turkey's labour migrants perfectly well. The workforce building the 2nd sarcophagus for the Chernobyl nuclear reactor No.4 (the one the exploded) is mostly Turkish. One would hope they do a good job

It's not about what's good for one member state or another, it's (supposedly) about what's good for the Union as a whole.

I have to say as well that I've got a feeling this idea the EU tells us what we can/can't do is a bit of an urban myth and happens nowhere near as often as the leave campaign would like to make out.

the biggest issue with this referendum is it going to be a 50/50 split or thereabouts.

so whether we stay in or out half the countrys wishes arent listened too.

Totally agree with these sentiments, and if some UK residents wish to trade their rights for membership of a club comprised of an increasingly dodgy bunch of foreigners then they know how to cast their votes. And if supporting Queen and country is now reckoned to be unfashionably 'nationalistic' then I know how to cast mine.

What if your children want to go and live in another country?

If you want whats best for your children, you should give them the most options and choices possible, not restrict them to an isolated island!

But you automatically assume that what is good for everyone is somehow not good for the UK? Are we in some way special that things that are good for most people are in some way bad for us?

Bad for us and choice are two different things. Your example of bulbs is a prime one. It is good for the UK, but you lose some choice.

Well I've seen it all now. Apparently (according to conspiritard *******)we have to take our own pen into the polling booth, because if we use the pencil provided someone will change our vote. It must be because a lot of these people haven't voted before, IT'S ALWAYS BEEN A PENCIL, there is no conspiracy here.

FFS - is this what we've become? - we don't need saving from the EU we need saving from ourselves!
