Yes they do when it suits them. Do a few searches and see. I quoted three from France. Germany and Italy have ignored the EU over steel. There are opthers out there. Which ones have WE ignored?
Other countries seem to look at a rule, decide if it benefits them or their citizens, then ignore it if not. We, on the other hand, enforce everything, then blame the EU...and are surprised when Joe Public doesn't like the EU.
Go figure.
Of course he was, a nutter at least, still is and not to bright either. So what? He was in the right over the pits, history has shown it so.
And Germany have decided to abandon nuclear and go back to good old coal...what of EU regs on emissions? Oh, ignore those.......
But hey, what do I know?
Getting tired of trying to put you establishment types right.
I've been shown to have been right over the vote and the feelings of the UK public. I've been shown to have been right over EU double dealing, dishonesty and etc.
I think I'll now withdraw and let you have your little establishment @rse licking sessions to yourselves.
Naive doesn't even start to describe most of the remainers.

Scargill was just as much of a 'character'...your emotive language proves Geeza's point; you cannot be objective on the subject. I think most will have empathy but it doesn't make you right.

Perhaps we should do that too. Keep the skilled miner in work and burn mountains to melt steel.

You don't understand the difference between anecdote and fact do you...noise that's all you generate, just like the campaign you supported. Whilst living in France.
Hahahahahahaha establishment types; so far away from me and my life choices...that comment shows the value of your insight into this whole sorry affair; a big fat zero.

So, and in your own words, precisely what IS the point of a club where everyone ignores rules that they don't like?
I know who I'd rather talk to about steel: a steelworks manager or the biased media.
And as for Thatcher, well we all know how THAT ended. We are sitting on millions of tons of coal, enough for 300 years, yet we import it while men sit idle. Reasoned response? She was a spiteful ****.

just a few questions ?
is that imported coal still £10 a tonne cheeper now most of our mines are closed
how many tonnes of coal did we have to import at £10 a tonne cheeper to make it worth while, ie covering the dole payments for all the miners and connected workers she put out of work,
answers we will never see to questions i dont recall ever being asked of goverment, was it a case of bending down to pick up 5pence and putting ones **** through a £50 window ?

Now the real reason for brexit is announced
Apparently we need to bring back our old blue cardboard passports
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-36952010
Forget the tragic lack of investment in our infrastructure, or housing crisis
Nope, we need to restore national pride in the return of blue passports
I am always amazed how limited peoples horizons are
What next - Donkey Jackets and the Austin Allegro

we have just had the Brexit minister David Davis make a statement regarding the single market, only to be flatly contradicted by the PM and Downing Street.
and worryingly Davies has form on this, a few weeks ago he suggested we make trade deals with Germany, it sounded great until he was reminded that this was impossible

It was always predictable that foreign companies such as the Japanese car manufacturers, that have invested in the UK, did so to gain access to the single European market. If they no longer have that access, then its clear their reasons for being in the UK no longer make sense and they will look to other countries to continue to provide them tariff free access to the EU market - Poland and Romania would be obvious choices!
My company in Germany also has sites in the UK. We received an internal memo last week to say they had set up a strategy group to look at the Brexit scenario, its effect on our business and future investments. The wording was very negative and the implication was current investment in the UK is on hold and unless the status-quo is maintained then the likelihood is they will pull out of the UK for all but UK specific projects!
The current news is all a bit positive about how the post Brexit economy is actually booming thanks to the weak pound, but what they're forgetting to say is we're not actually post Brexit yet - we are still very much a part of the EU, the brown stuff will only really hit the fan once we actually leave and have to survive on our own!

what is fascinating BMWhere is that reading between the lines of May's words around immigration, the proposals she seem to be floating actually appear to be pretty close to what the actual rules of EU free movement where
namely that you have to show you could support yourself with a job etc etc
I posted the link to the UK government website (and quoted the relevant sections) that outlined the rules earlier on in this thread
it is just that the UK did not bother to implement them

Sure, if someone wants to retire to Spain, then they can only do so provided they can completely support themselves!
Same for someone working short term and remaining tax resident in their own country.
But the problem is when someone works longer in another country and become tax resident in that country. Once you've started contributing to the tax system of another country, then surely you should be entitled to the benefits that you've contributed to, be it health care or unemployment or even state pension! Is it right if you've worked in another EU country for most of your life then retire and get sent home to another country?
In the end, movement of EU citizens within the EU is not really the problem facing the UK or Europe as a whole. Immigration from outside the EU is a much bigger problem and the lack of external EU border controls and agreement among members to evenly share the challenge is by far the bigger immigration related problem!

In principle this seems like a perfect solution until you think about it more deeply and then it becomes more complicated!

the point is the UK government looks like it is proposing something very similar to what we all ready had - but were to lazy/indifferent to police effectively (yet blamed the EU)
namely to move to Britain you need to have a job (or the realistic prospect of getting one within 3 months) or be able to financially support yourself
#3478
I watched Greenland is some programme recently. They were talking about their EU exit when it happened and its impact on their economics, which wasn't pleasant. They use their Denmark as a platform to continue distributing their sellables in the EU market and reap the benefits of the free trade, so they're ticking on. Their seal skin doesn't get bought this end. Majority goes to Asia and other areas of the world as EU won't let those to be sold in its territory.

That may or may not come to pass
But what we have had is Hammond saying EU bankers will certainly have free movement into the UK whatever the restrictions on other are
Mmmm, that won't please Alcazar
And now Liam Fox says UK PLC has become "fat and lazy" - almost sounds like he is getting his excuses in early
