For the cost difference i'd just chuck an alcatek in it or if your a bit flush then a syvecs.

Assume cambelt, pulleys and tensioner need doing a well

Not sure i'd buy from hurst again, if Zee do check em over then they missed crank seal and bother rockers were leaking then zen can't be that good and mine wasn't mapped either.

I have replaced all the belts. I was going to keep the car standard and just get the car mapped for vpower and the exhuast system. However going from 350bhp to 280bhp is a bit of a shock.

So it's payday and going to get some bits ready for the Scooby.

I need some recommendations on the following (and where is the best / cheapest place to buy them) I try to steer clear of E-bay as there is so much fake S**t floating about on there.

So where can I get:

Uprated Discs and pads, what make do you recommend?
Rear ARB, is whiteline the best option?

Also I am now confused regarding the ECU Situation.

If my standard ECU can be remapped then what are the benefits of going for a different ECU, someone mentioned Syvecs?

I have had a look on TeamCarr at the remap options and they list Launch control and Anti Lag as options for ECULABS.

Can you only run anti-lag if you go full de-cat, ie will it ruin the Cat?

Finally what's this regarding going MAFLESS? What does it involve, simply removing the MAF And getting a remap without it on?

What are the benefits or drawbacks to getting this done.

My pennies worth, Had my V4 sti from new, always run on UK high octane fuel never had any problems, when I 1st had her she was running about 297 bhp from the factory and is currently running around 280 bhp after being SORN for 6 years

Uprated Discs and pads, what make do you recommend? A nice setup can be bought from Alyn at AS performance or Godspeed. Once fitted properly and the system serviced you'll notice a massive difference and won't really require more until you start upping the power. You may want to consider getting some HEL brake lines at the same time.

Rear ARB, is whiteline the best option? Yep or CDF. The whittling will more than likely look rusty and crap but they all do that about 6 weeks after purchase. CDF are exactly the same but powder coated.

By far the best ECU however these are used to run serious power and have various options that you just will never use or require.

The whole "Going Mafless" option is great mainly because the Mafs on the classics were pretty rubbish. Its possible the ESL daughter board will be your cheapest option but the favoured would be ALKATEK. If you look at Racing Dynamix (Duncans) website i believe he's currently offering £900 fitted and mapped for Alkatek.

You'll need to make sure the car / turbo is mechanically sound, exhaust manifold (Headers - RCM - GT Spec etc) prior to considering this option otherwise your likely to crack your own manifold and boil your rocker header gaskets.

Full service and ARB and Brakes are the top priorities, then look at some power upgrades and a remap I think.

Banny, I assume u have an ra then? What's the difference, dccd and no sound insulation? And only 2 doors, any other differences, how much premium would an ra command over a standard sti?

Type RA is the 4 door, Type R is a 2 door

Yes dccd, r180 rear diff with thicker shafts 2 pot rear brakes, roof vent, quicker steering rack and shorter ratio gearbox.

Hard to put an exact figure on it exactly but at least 1500-2k more over a standard sti of the same year

When it's running the power you are then no doubt ,I'm honestly not jealous

Well the car has now arrived in the UK,
Should be ready in a couple of weeks,
I am being told it will come with 12 months mot but will not have been converted to mph.

Someone has said it is a legal requirement to have it converted to mph, is this true? I didnt think it was but now not so sure.

so, im going to view it In about 2 weeks and then if it is what its supposed to be i will be bringing it home, guess only time will tell!

I've had my V5 STi for 6 years, never re-mapped but only run on Shell V-Power or Tesco Momentum, and never had any problems with the engine.

Thanks, I hope its a good one as well, the seller says it looks like an awesome car (but he isn't going to say "well actually its a dog is he )

Guess I will find out soon enough, it will have 12 months MOT, full service including all Fluids changed and if the cambelt hasn't been changed in the last 10,000 miles that will also be changed.

I hear a lot of scare stories saying if I don't re-map it for uk fuel it will blow up, I understand that if I run it on 95/97 ron but surely on V-Power it will be fine.

May just get it re-mapped anyway for peace of mind, what kind of power can I expect with just an exhaust on it, can't be arsed with a full decat as its a pain in the **** changing it back every MOT, if anyone knows a "friendly" MOT tester in the Lancashire area then feel free to PM as understand you wouldn't want to post any names on a public forum

on another note, anyone have any experiences of Cams performance in Blackburn?

Been looking about and they seem to be the closest Subaru specialist.

When I had my old WRX I took it to pro-sport in stockport for a healthcheck but TBH they didn't seem that interested but they were very busy so maybe caught them on a bad day.
