Classic WRX Vs. STi
Are classic STis worth that much more than a WRX?
For example, if you had 2 identical cars with service history, same auction grade from Japan, mods, version, mileage etc... Absolutely the same but one was a WRX and one was an STI?
Thanks,
Nick.

I was just looking at auction prices in Japan out of interest and I saw that WRXs go for a hell of a lot less than STis. I just wondered if the gulf in prices was the same here, or, because decent classics are getting rarer, there was less of a gap in prices.

Well the main differences that I would pay a premium for in the Classics would be DCCD, and the 2 doors of the Type R, which is the reason I own one.
They were both a tad fragile and sensitive to what fuel was used compared to the newer JDM models, but I'd say that was more due to ecu's, bolt on mods and dodgy maf's and a general lack of knowledge than the engines themselves, although there are and will always be exceptions.
At the end of the day the WRX was and still is the poverty spec and as always that is reflected in the price, I'm not sure what the price difference was with classics but I presume it was in the region of £5/6k as with the newage and as I said earlier, it just depends if you're prepared to pay the extra for the better spec.
One thing I would add though is the Classic STI is the most iconic and as such is in my eyes "The one to have" more so than the newage / hatch variants, but again that's down to personal taste.
