VW and the emissions scandal
Well if VW put a Broquet Fuel Catalyst in the tank the mpg would improve and compensate for loss of mpg once VW's magic software has been removed thus avoiding claims for millions from disgruntled owners.
Broquet is a tin alloy catalyst and the world’s foremost authority on tin science, The International Tin Research Institute, ITRI, have recently issued a Statement endorsing the claims we have been making for a quarter of a century. I am sorry that this may upset members of the Scoobynet flat earth society who took great delight in insulting me and the technology (in complete ignorance of the facts) for many years!

So are you saying that ITRI's scientists falsified their 20 year research to promote a few ounces of tin?
Perhaps they also bribed Subaru who bought several thousand units to reduce engine damage caused by European unleaded. Every single P1 vehicle (1000) had Broquet fitted for example.
Of course there is the unthinkable thought that the technology might actually be valid

I was under impression that many P1s had blown engines and needed to be run on high octane fuel. If that was the case the broquet didn't do its job.

If I had one of these cars, and received a "recall" letter from VW
I would be really interested know exactly what was going to be done to it
and whether as a result of any changes that were made I would get reduced power and a lower MPG

I'd say Subaru have the same issues (albeit in different markets maybe) with the secondary air system fitted to later models.
What is this system if not a cheat for emissions? It runs for a few seconds pumping fresh air through the system to lower the average particle rate and then switches off. Was fitted to allow Subaru to meet (cheat) emissions regulations in some US states and doesn't cause a problem here as our MOT test doesn't test emissions on cold start.

We already know what the next headlines will be; owners of recalled vehicle complaining about performance and economy

If it reduces power/throttle response or increases lag (likely) and/or fuel consumption, I will quite happily tell them where to shove their "recall".
Have they made public the engine codes of affected vehicles yet??...I'm guessing its the CAGA, CFGB and CBAB...all very common units fitted across all the VAG brands
