I'd be wary of a knee-jerk reaction to slackening the cockpit door security because of this incident alone. At this stage although it's all pointing to depression / mental unbalance it would be a prospect extremists / terrorists would salivate over.

Changes to procedure and door systems should definitely be explored, remote unlocking / override etc. Distress mode activation from somewhere other than the cockpit perhaps.
Agree the last comment should be a ground override to unlock the door ie any deviation to altitude direction should unlock the door or if Two members of crew agree on unlock.

Very sad and coward act indeed.
More psychometric tests may help but will not necessarily detect a psycho who acts as a serial killer/rapist. These people are clever enough to hide their thoughts and act normally.
And a different point of view (google translate it): https://www.facebook.com/Anonymous.K...type=1&theater

They know he selected 100 feet on the panel and pulled the switch which then causes the autopilot to try and achieve this new altitude.

They know this because the aircraft can be interrogated by computers in air traffic regarding what altitude the autopilot is set for. The plane automatically replies with this data (amongst other data).

That's very clever technology, but it doesn't prevent such accident from happening where nothing can be done. It helps to establish what could have caused it, and who is to blame, and that is something, I suppose.

Well, if I were to commit suicide, I'd do my utmost to minimise the harm and impact on others.

But I guess that's just me....

+1 the media should stop using his name. He should be known a "the murdering b@stard co pilot" and his grave should be in the form of a urinal where the victims family can go and p!ss on it.

but the problem is, suicide is a supremely irrational act in itself

and when in that totally irrational mind set, who knows what you do

but yes - I would hope the same

but even then, unless you are a total "billy no mates" - some people are going to be devastated

So, the pilot’s supporters claim that he’s wrongly blamed to cover up mechanical failure.

Plot thickens.

Understandable that people would want to defend their own, but this goes beyond stretching credulity. If Lufthansa have any culpability here it's for letting this guy fly in the first place, despite supposedly knowing about his mental health history (probably reported elsewhere, but mentioned in the CH4 documentary just earlier tonight - http://www.channel4.com/programmes/h...are-our-planes).

I think his own ones are terribly shocked and stand in total disbelief hence the denial. He's posthumously proving to be a man of mysteries; the mysteries that even his close ones perhaps couldn't ever fathom. Must be terribly difficult for them to make sense of all that.

I read that more has come out to support the 'suicide' version, and as the second black box has also been found now; currently being examined.
