Late 70's into the early 80's for me - all the punk and new wave stuff - Thanks to the late great John Peel.
There is still some good music out there from bands that don't get exposure because of all the manufactured rubbish due to the likes of X-Factor and The Voice karaoke singers - you just have to go and look for it in local pubs, etc.

A history lesson for all those people who think Micheal Jackson invented the moonwalk
When this was shown on a Thursday night in 1982 - my god the next day, at school it was mayhem
The legendary Jodi Watley and Jeffrey Daniel

I think for a lot of people the music scene around their teenage years tends to be a pretty powerful memory. I lived my teenage years through the 80s and I love a lot of bands of that time but equally I still liked certain music prior to that and all the way up to the latest songs being played on the radio today.
To me a good song/band/artist is good no matter what year/era/genre it came from

People do know via TV documentaries that MJ didn't invent the moonwalk, but MJ embraced it, fetched one quality recognition for it, and made it much more watchable! MJ was so thunderously unique that no one like him will ever be born again.
That was of late 80's I think:
No one can dance like MJ. He was the coolest ever!

Born in the 80s so naturally 80s and mid 90s stuff has stuck with me in the hair on arms standing up to certain tracks. That said I'm discovering loads of stuff on BBC4. Even sodding Rod Stewart stuff that I'd never heard. Was always Mum music that but you just catch stuff as you grow up and lose that need to give a toss if people think you are cool or not.
Another shout for Depeche Mode. Enjoy the Silence is one of those quintessential 80s tracks. Got remixed on a bunch of Euphoric Breakdown compilations but you can't touch the original.
I think the thing I like most about music is the fact it brings people together. Despite any BS band rivalries created by the media/PR teams to sell records, most folk I know who liked Parklife also like Definitely Maybe in equal measure. It's perhaps easier to appreciate as it's a bit more real than say Film.

Yes they were exciting times for sure, the music scene was so 'alive'. I remember clubbing in London at the end of the New Romantic era and the clubs had this 'electric' atmosphere, it was like you were part of something big, but you didn't quite know what.
The only time that has ever surpassed those nights for me was the Hacienda in the early 90s.... then you knew what you were part of and it was the most amazing experience..... God I wish I could do it all over again!

Body popping was about 5/6yrs old by the time it went main stream, I'd been roller skating for around 4yrs by the time that vid came out and we were already going everywhere with a piece of rolled up lyno break dancing and body poping with a gheto blaster in tow.
Never have much luck looking for some of the old vids on Utube that we had on VHS and would literally watch them until the tape wore out, they were some pretty amazing guys and times back then.

I remember me and my homeboys laughing at that because he was quite crap compared to some of the street dancing vids we had from the states.
