Watched Dancer in the dark last night, Bjork masterclass. It's hard to watch without getting wet eyed, it's not enjoyable but it's not meant to be 6/10. Also watched Time Lapse which was absorbing but the pay-off wasn't as good as the film deserved 7/10

 

I totally get what you mean. I only gave 6/10 to '12 Years A Slave' due to some actors' performance in it. In fact, it was hurting me to take it to 6. In all honesty it was 5, really.

I watched Harbinger down the other night. That was a really disappointing remake of The Thing. Don't bother.

Terminator Genisys was better than I thought it was going to be. You need to be able to remember the timeline of the previous films or it gets really confusing. I had to stop and think a few times.

Go in with an open mind and I think you'll like it.

 

I watched Breaking the Waves (1996) on Sky Arts lately. I thought it was a good film with strong performance with Emily Watson with a delusionally religious, fragile person's act. Not as engaging, as I watched it in bits over a couple of weeks. However, 7/10.

I also watched The White Countess (2005) yesterday night with strong acts by late Natasha Richardson and Ralph Fiennes. Both are brilliant actors, and a very engaging film, I thought. Watched it in one sitting with a couple of pauses to answer this-or-that to others. Great soundtrack as well. 8.5/10.

Not much of a worth for the ones who prefer blockbuster box office record breakers, but I like films like these.

 

We watched TED 2 last night, I laughed all the way through it so I'm guessing it's a good comedy.

I know it's been mentioned already, but we enjoyed Interstellar the other night. Not a classic, but very good.

 

And I know that most of you have probably watched Public Enemies (2009) a long time ago, but I only watched in in last 2-3 weeks or so. 3/10 for portraying a brutal gangsta as martyr Gandhi, although the gangsta was worshipped for his crimes in the setting, big deal! For me, the film gave no reason whatsoever to feel for him, and his pathetic lover and surreal ending of the film made no sense. Depp's pretty face doesn't suffice. Anyway, if you haven't watched it, it's a material for the men that get excited upon watching an overconfident psycho going around shooting peeps, and has a normal life on the side. It didn't rock my boat.

Another one I watched was Before I Go to Sleep (2013). I really don't know how a talented and a stunning actress ends up taking on good storyline films, only to be spoiled by poor scripting. Makes you think- "What a sheer waste of my seven quid on the DVD and time!" 2/10. Watch it if you have nothing better to do.

 

Really enjoyed Guardians of the Galaxy! child at heart! Great opening scene and music though....'come and get your love' great!

 

I watched Ex Machina recently and it was a great watch! Really makes you think about what the future holds............

 

Anyone watched The Exotic Marigold Hotel (2012) on CH4 last night? Junior preferred watching it over The Dead Poet's Society (she hasn't yet seen it), but then got distracted with her boyfriend's phone call. I wasn't interested as since it came out, everyone was saying to me- "Have you watched it, it has your Jaipur in it!". Well, so what! And that's why I wasn't fussed. Anyway, Jaipur or no Jaipur, it was captivating. Big 8/10. From me. Watch it if you're at the risk of going a Senior in next 5 years, and in next 15, a write off. Or, if you're already a senior or a write off. Good book put forward as a good film.

 

Monsters Dark Continent 3/10.

Tried to be a Cloverfield by making the Monster story take a back seat to a desperate search. Sorry but the Monsters in these two films so far are so fascinating they have to be explored. Just like the equally disappointing Pan's Labyrinth I don't give 2 ***** about an insignificant war story.

 

Watched Ex Machina last night. Not bad.
Also watched Lila and Eve. Bit of a chick flick but kept me entertained.

 

Saw Hunger Dogs for the first time last night on Film8. Okay, I guess. :|

 

Preview showing of No Escape last night. Pretty good and on topic with some of the worlds "hot spots".

 

I liked the first film. Considering it's budget was less than a 3 bed semi in Surrey, the lad did an amazing job.

Private Pyle was. He topped himself before graduating. The thought of having his eyes gouged out and his skull subsequently f£&@ed by Sergeant Hartman was probably all too much. That, or the thought that he'd end up in a ruined London Docklands instead of an actual Vietnamese Jungle when it came to the "war" scenes........."Not finished Canary Wharf yet? I can't cope!"

Just watched Gladiator again.WHAT A BLOODY FILM !

 

I watched Man from Uncle and Mission Impossible 557 in the last couple of weeks, both mildly entertaining. Man From Uncle was the better of the two for me but I wouldn't go out of my way to watch either, nor will I be adding them to the list of films to look out for and add to my DVD collection when they get to the 3 quid section at Sainsbury's.

On a slightly better note, Train Spotting is in Sainsbury's @ 4 quid at the moment so if you've not already got it, it's worth going to get a copy, they also have Kill Bill 1 and 2 twin pack for a fiver which I've just purchased and looking forward to a back to back session on the projector when I have nothing better to do.

 

Watched Furious 7 last night, sad ending but the rest of the film was ludicrous. I don't know if it was aimed at Bond fans or Power Ranger fans. Certainly not car tuning enthusiasts like the 1st 3-4 films.

Hyena - WOW what a movie ! Bent cops in London associating with Albanian and Turk drug traffickers . Vey violent , very real . A must watch.

 

Viewed Bronson on Film4 last night. Another very good 'method' performance from the excellent Tom Hardy (can't wait for Legend).


Charles Salvador (nee Bronson, obviously) is the loosest of loose cannons!
