Who's the best courier to use and avoid?

found out today that UPS have a access point at my local corner shop
it was £8 not £62.10
It's a great service but I think things have to be less than 1 meter and no more than a 1 man lift in weight.

Used Parcel Force, UPS and DPD never had any problems,avoid Yodel and City Link imo....
