Exactly so 500 and above is not a daily drive or even much fun in normal traffic.
One of our friend 'specialists ' had a guy that wanted 500 hp nothing would convince him that less would be adequate. So they stuck him in a demonstrator and frightened him daft foir 20 mins or so.
He recovered and said THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I WANT !!![Luxhello](images/smilies/luxhello.gif)

"OK sir, here's the dyno sheet, as you can see it has 401 hp "![EEK!](images/smilies/eek.gif)
Best advice try one before committing,
it is not all about headline power and most will only last for 20,000 miles being used properly before they just wear out.
Cue for many posts from people with 500 plus and 60,000 miles to appear![Idea](images/smilies/idea.gif)

Then built a 400bhp GC8 sti and it ate the gearbox after 500 miles. Then a fuel pump, then had misfire issues. It generally just caused issues.
Then built a 500bhp P1 and it ran faultlessly for 500 miles till the PPG dog box broke.
As soon as you start pushing 350+ in these cars expect issues

Correct, I had a 330bhp RB5 which I built and it never missed a beat for 2 years.

Not really no, it took months to actually fail though. One minute it would be running and the bang car would cut out. Then it would last for weeks and then die in the worst place possible.
Needless to say it was the last thing I changed

So from what I am reading here, some cars just dont cope well with high power?
Really looking for something that I can drive on pretty much a daily basis and not have to worry about reliability issues.
I wont be doing any track days or drag racing thats for sure! So maybe a 500bhp car might be overkill for what I want really.
My Spec C hawk was running about 360bhp and that was a fast car. But I always felt it could be faster!
Maybe I should be looking at something more in the realms of 400bhp?

A 400bhp forged 2.5 will be loads of fun on the road. Bucketfulls of torque make for effortless driving and will always be ready to go when you want to stamp on the loud pedal.
500 might be a nice target but doesn't always make for the best practical road car.

I mostly run mine in medium boost (1.5 bar) using VPower and I would estimate about 470-480bhp from that. It is plenty enough for the road, but not too much IMHO.
I make use of the "CAL Override" facility of the Syvecs, enabled by a button on my Toucan touchscreen, to quickly switch to the 1.7 bar map if I want it...like an "overtake" or "mega power" button

Dozza - i think stick with the JDM 2.0 litre route.
Staying at around 450bhp is relatively easy to achieve and as Shaun has proved it can be done with out the need of even changing the clutch. (although Shaun drives like miss daisy so no wonder its lasted
)
At that power level it will be fast enough to see off most things on the road, infact i would say its too fast for the road real terms.
my hawkeye spec c is running around 460bhp and has been for the last 3 years, with about 12 track days inc driving to and from Spa in belguim and 2 days on track. Car has been faultless, but then it wants for nothing and always service regularly using motul 300v oils.
So really its down to how you want to achieve this.
