3 gauge dash pod for pre MY99
ScoobyDuck,
Thanks, what I did was remove the plastic surround and vents. I removed the Y pipe for the vents and just sealed the main part. Back to the Plastic surround, unscrew the vent from it and then cut the center part off the suround off. Then used fiberglass to close the opening by running strips across it the hole and holding it taughtly across. Most of the layers were done from the back as to not make the front uneven with the lower part. After alot of sanding I took alot of measurements and used a hole cutter for the guage holes. A coat of flat black paint and presto. This was my first fiberglass project so I think I could have done even better. If you try it I wish you luck though the end result is well worth it.

Latest update!!!!
I have spoken to the Manufacturer and the pattern is good enough to be moulded.
I have a couple of last tweaks to make sure the shape and surface are smooth.
It was a surprise when the manufacturers said they could do it in Polyurethane (plastic), as I assumed it would be fibreglass.
Manufacturing in PU will give a much better finish, though either way it would have needed to be painted (which they will do for us)
Another advantage of PU is we can have the holes for the gauges moulded into the pod rather than have to cut them out later.
So I'm going to have 60's made first but if there's enough interest I will do a few 52's on the second run.
I'm hoping to have the pattern finished and with them for the end of the week and they estimate a 3week wait till the first pods are produced.
Price £60

Marc,
I have the ability (well the manufacturer does) to make the pod in 60,52 or SECS unit fitment. Though we would have to get a group of at least 10 together for the SECS pod. Otherwise the cost for just one would be astronomical!!
Is the SECS available for the <98 cars now?
Iain.

Iain, the secs isn't available yet as far as I know, phoned them a week or 2 ago and they said hopefully end feb early march, so quite soon. Not sure whether to get gauges and find a home for a secs later or wait for the secs and have no gauges, aghhhhhh, gadget overload. Could just be the gauges, best shop around and make a decision as I'd like to get a pod soon.
Cheers
Marc

If my "time management skills" were up to scratch I'd have had this done months ago

scoobylav,
The first run will be 60mm gauges, but the 52mm pod will be identical and should be available soon after the 60's
Here are the pix of the pattern. I'am waiting for the manufacturers to make the mould and produce the first pods.

(No offence intended with any of the previous posts...)It's been a long week so far, and there's no sign of me getting everything finished by Friday that I need to do...
Very tired already, and the week is only half way through.[Edited by dnb - 9/3/2003 11:54:52 PM]
hi
i am a mechanical design engineer who works for a plastic mould making company. If there was enough interest in this project it would be no big deal to design a pod and make a mould tool for it.
regards stevi
