Christ, £3000 for insurance?! Now I understand why you see so many uninsured drivers on the police programmes, especially those with foreign licenses.

The insurance industry really doesn't help does it?

With the OP's circumstances an Impreza isn't the ideal first car for him in the UK.

A 'normal' car would be must more reasonable to insure.

Yeah...now I understand why they do this but...I don't agree at all. Driving a car always implies that some day you may kill someone even if its not your fault at all and then what...you don't have an insurance and how much is a person worth?... but anyway if that happens you won't be able to drive again I guess... so the first year is too expensive but maybe after the sencond maybe the 3rd one...I got a normal price!

I know, I know...but well...I don't drink at all and barely smoke...so cars is my only hobby...why not spend the money in something that I can enjoy every single time I put my foot down?

Tbf we've all spent a great deal on the running a of cars over the time instead of just buying a cheap banger.
If it's your hobbie and that's what keeps you happy, then you can't put a price on that, happiness is key.
If you can afford it somehow then just go for it, next year will be a lot cheaper I'd say in the region of £1k or under with 1yr ncd.
