John,

Why are you trying to talk yourself out of an STI 7??

You know you want one.
The financial difference is negligable.
It has a 3 year warranty
It's brillant out of the box, so no modding required.
The PPP will make it stunning.
It's closer to the rally car than the RB5.

Need I go on?

I have visited car's having been told the body work is immaculate...Apparently the key scratches all the way round the car will T-cut out (and he said he hadn't even noticed them!).

I found looking for secondhand Impreza's very stressfull - goodluck john.

I'm getting angry just reading this thread. Someone did this to me once, but I was only 30 Miles from home.. That really p!ssed me off, so I can imagine you're fuming!

I'm starting to feel a little guilty now

There are some right To55ers out there. Glad I've found a genuine Bloke to buy one off

Might explain why you sounded a little stressed when I spoke to you today

Did you manage to sort things with the bank.. you can mail me if you wish.

Thanks

Andy

Hi m8
Nice way to spend your bank holiday.
Also know the feeling. Wanted to buy a Scoob about 3 weeks ago. Did HPI etc on it and then went 200 miles each way to see it. Was'nt happy about a couple of things about the car so left it at that and went home to check items out. Basically not sure if an import or not although told it was UK. When finally got it sorted after calls to HPi, DVLA and my ins co. guy decided he did'nt want to sell.
Fair enough we can all change our minds but just a pity it cost me 400 miles, quite a few phone calls and a HPi check.
Still looking though.

Hi Jods, get him to mail me with all the details please. I am taking a look at an RB5 on monday darn sarth (why the **** are they all owned by southern shandy drinking jessies. ) so if he gets in touch tomorow with details and a phone number that would be great.

I still have wheels for a couple of days yet tony. You sound desperate mate.

Dont worry Andy, I am going to knock off £200 from the price due to the extra miles i will put on the car this w/end, it's only fair.

Not sure why people worry about stone chips. If a car's spent 30k miles being driven it's either going to have stonechips (and parking dinks) or it's going to have been resprayed. I prefer the stonechips (which I can fix at my convenience and at a quality I'm happy with) than a cheap respray to hide them.

PS: My car's peppered with stonechips and dinks in the doors. I suppose I'll get them Dentmaster-ed/Chips Away-ed before I sell it

YMMV etc.

Damn shame John Knowing a little bit about the background to this thread and the person concerned, I have to say I'm surprised and disappointed. IMHO I'd keep looking for an RB5

<Anyone got a car they want to sell me, it better be what you say it is!>
John, for sale, one Sierra Cosworth, totally shagged. Concours example, till I got my hands on it, Fcuked diff and gearbox due to excessive donutting, only polished once in the 18 months I've owned her, really getting quite shabby now, 8k ono.

Seriously mate, sorry to hear you got messed about, hope you get a new car soon.

Quite a thread this!

I apologised many times to john realising my mistake of not telling him there was another viewer in the morning when I phoned with the bad news. I had, wrongly, thought to queue the 2 views to avoid an auction. My plan was only flawed because the first person (who had been put off as long as John through my few personal emergencies) effectively brought his money with him ready to buy - something I wasn't aware of.

I didn't feel good about it then and certainly don't now - it was an honest mistake and, unfortunately john suffered. I'll have to live with that.

What John hasn't mentioned is that after the buyer agreed to give what I asked for and I said 'great, that is a deal'. I immediately phoned John and his response was to "have you swapped money? well hold him off for a couple of hours til I get there to make an offer"

This is where John got much more p!ssed off than he was already. Having sold the vehicle for the amount I asked for (not even a haggle), how could I revoke the sale until john arrived only for a possible auction to ensue.

It was a surprise that the buyer wanted to take the car on the day, but having the asked for amount on a plate I wasn't going to push away a 100% sale for John who was only (in my mind) a 50/60% sale.

I don't like mucking people around and it's happened and I'm not happy about the way I handled it, but on the phone to john whilst he was at the side of the road, I couldn't p!ss off the buyer too.

It's obviously not worth a jot, but again, sorry John. This is my last word on it and very possibly my last on scoobynet.

so long and thanks for all the fish chaps.

Yes, but he still spent all the time and effort, not to mention money on coming to see you!! As he said he would have come down the night before and viewed in the morning.

I think now you've explained it's easy to see why you took the money. Maybe you should offer some money for his petrol ?

I think you did right coming on here to explain yourself.

How great has this thread made me feel. I don't like being called a to$$er or a W4nker thanks. The RB5 in question belongs to my missus.
If anything I have learned a bit from Johns visit.
1) I bought the car from a main dealer in January for 19K with a claimed FSSH. I assumed it would be correct, it wasn't until John said it wasn't that I realised 2 had been missed, it has been serviced on miles rather than time.
2) The scratch on the back bumper occured after my original advert, I pointed this out to John when he was looking around the car.
3) The front bumper paint is thin, it is thin on my UK300 too.
4) The "scratches" around the car could be T cut out, there are not many and they're not deep!
5) I was not aware of the ding in the passenger door until John pointed it out.

I just want it made clear that I am not here to rip anyone off, I paid 19K for this car in January and I was going to let it goto John for £14,250!! Thats a giveaway. I also was fully prepared to meet John halfway between my house and his, that was our original plan. I'm sorry John was disappointed with the car, I have dealt with people on this board before and I would hope you would vouch that I am true to my word.

Can't believe how angry this thread has made me feel, I love the way people jump in with comments without knowing any of the facts.

For what it's worth if John had of wanted the car I would probably have offered to pay for the cam belt service.
