Help'!!!!!! Had to abandon the subaru
Right people been out there this morning cambelt has not snapped!!!!!!!! It's fine a taught! I have just tested the pulled in front of the AC unit and it def is jammed would this cause the car to stop all of a sudden and to fail to turn over?????
If you put it in gear, can you move it backwards and forwards (by pushing it, obviously)?
Does it freewheel OK? As in, if you press the clutch down, can you easily move the car around (again, by pushing)?

Take the belt off tha ac unit, if the engines failing to turn over even with a jump, I doubt it's anything to do with alternator.
Have you tried to manually turn the engine, either by putting a socket on crank pulley, or rocking car back and forward whilst in gear?
I'd take the all cam covers off and check timing is still correct, may have slipped/jumped.

When you got the AA on it, did they not plug it in for a diagnostic check? As you mentioned that the CEL light came on then a fault would of been registered for someone to check and not for them to make assumptions as to what it could be
