Have you let the oil get too low or something?
I know I have done this before and the car just stopped dead
at a roundabout. Checked the oil and it was right down.
I think the engines have a fail safe mechanism to protect
themselves if if it gets too low on oil or water. Once I'd
filled mine up it was running fine again.

Just seen it doesnt turn over. Check the cam belt before you do anything else incase trying to start it is doing more harm than good.

AA has just been here and said it could be a jammed AC unit and it was screeching the other week so I stopped using it?????? It's not turning over even wit AA power pack connected and with perfect voltage???? He said something's jammed and the flashing CEL light leads him to believe its mechanical and not electrical????

Yes whip one of the covers off and you will see if the belt has snapped

When you turn the key to start it, can you here the starter motor click?

If not, i can thinh of 2 things that would cause the symptoms you describe,
1. Engine block earth strap fault.
2. Aftermarket alarm system fault. But only if it is an alarm that immobilises both the starter circuit and fuel pump or coil circuit.

If it does click but doesn't turn the engine over, it is quite probable, some internal engine damage has occurred causing it to seize.

You could try clamping a single jump lead from the battery negative to the engine block to test that theory.
To check to see if the engine is free, try very slowly turning the crankshaft pulley bolt (clockwise)with a socket.

Put the car in gear and rock it back and forward, you'll know if there's been interference.

And yes if the cam belts snapped its big trouble I'm afraid.

Check the new sensor. If you have put it in recently it may be the problem. Is it a genuine subaru one?
