Mines been fine since having the beta 4 version . I've updated this week my wife's iPhone 5 and iPad air not a single problem gone wrong
Same, iPad 2 I reset to factory then restored via iCloud, took a while but it's a lot better for it, snappier. iPhone was on device as an experiment, running better than ever. iPad 3 used iTunes last night, slick and fast.
Show me a link that's not sensational journalism and I might take notice. It's a nice headline that pulls people like you in, provides good income. Have another search and do it from both directions to get a clearer view.
Hmmm....well I think I'll hold off on the "upgrade" on my 5. Based on experiences of past updates, they're usually detrimental to performance and battery life which is more important to me than a few cosmetic changes and non-essential functionality.
Did you restore from iTunes first? I did and mine is running great, cut and pasting between apps is a bit rubbish, but I can live with that. Still a bit shocked that the 2 got the update, it's a trooper.
Yup, 8.0.1 OTA pulled. Seems the issues were specific to a) OTA update, b) iPhone 6 / 6 Plus devices.
If you managed to download the firmware and used iTunes to update I think you were ok, certainly it seems an option-click on the update button in iTunes, then selecting the firmware file would update - so no need for full restore - and you'd be ok.
To be honest, from a dev perspective, the iOS 8 / iTunesConnect changes have been more than little frustrating, and this 8.0.1 issue is the brown icing on a sh*t cake. I have to say it's been the worst release phase for iOS I've encountered.
It will only be available for a limited time, once Apple stops (which can me anytime soon) support for 7.1.2 it stop signing this firmware which will make it impossible to downgrade.
Stick with it MDS, my iPad 2 runs better on 8 than 7. Perhaps do a factory reset before restoring your back up, it worked for me so should work for you.
8.1 will be available shortly, was out yesterday for a short while, should be back soon.
I agree with trying the restore route. I've had a couple of devices seem a bit slow and a full wipe and restore does seem to freshen things up and they seem more responsive.

Are you saying that to get the most out of iOS 8 you have to install, wipe, restore, install? Or, just wipe and restore after the initial restore?
