It's so 'Animal Farm' on here sometimes, I think some of you struggle to believe that conditions and ability can affect the outcome of any encounter, even when the odds are stacked, the stats never tell the whole story, anyone that's ever driven anything approaching 300bhp per ton should know it's not quite as simple as press the gas and point.
I don't do "electronics" or straight lines and the road surfaces where I drive aren't always dry, flat and grippy so maybe I'm a little different, but I doubt it, I'm just a realist and not afraid to admit someone could get the drop on me or just plain and simply could be a better driver than me, even in a car that costs significantly less. One thing's for sure, there's always someone better, but he's not always in the "better" car.
You can keep your badges and fancy electronic driver aids, it's not my idea of driving when the cars being interfered with by computers, regardless of power.
P.S, I'd be p!ssed too if I'd spent £30/40k on a car and a poxy modded WRX could stay with it.

My wrx PPP or WRX-S as it was called did 60 on 5.5 not 4.8 unless the early version was Quicker?
Anyway chris or Carnut the flappy paddles are fine for manual, life become so much easier with auto, ok the realists like a stick and I admit I do like manual, but I gotta get real I rarely thrash a car enough to warrant the fun a manual brings, and the benefits auto brings far outweigh the need for manual, traffic nowadays is an **** and not having to worry about changing is bliss and if I want manual I flick it and use the paddles....
Manuals are so 90s lol....

So anyone that spends £50k on a diesel Range Rover should be pissed when an old WRX beats it?
Now here I beg to differ.
While I respect old Imprezas, I desire one slightly less than I desire piles. I also think a lot of Impreza claims are greatly exaggerated; I know what's slower and what's quicker than cars I own; a bit of local knowledge and skill can come in handy but only up to a point.
And I know that my car is quicker than the latest STI; a car considerably quicker than a WRX. Just look at any lap time (Evo tested them directly not long ago; the BM was an easy winner). Now an STI has a lot more than just a little tune up; so to get a WRX to STI levels needs engine, chassis and brakes work; most modders just tweak the elderly engine then make outrageous claims.
Suddenly a vintage WRX is faster than nearly anything on the road; even the devastatingly rapid GTR.
Sorry but it's just nonsense.
And the old vs new thing? It makes skint performance car owners feel very clever but I'd have a modern performance car over a "faster" old model any day of the week. Except a classic Porsche; I'd make serious allowances for one of those...

Mattee with the greatest of respect, your such a snob sometimes. Everyone is different as are their priorities, mine don't revolve around what car I drive and my cars don't define me, I'm not image conscious nor do I value or judge a person based upon their material wealth, bank balance or the car they drive.
You sometimes, well rater a lot of the time come across as a person that does and is somewhat obsessed by such matters, I really hope for you that's not the case and that this is just an impression that's created due to the written word being less personal.
I agree with you on many things, but jeez dude you really need to chill a bit sometimes and try and see things from all sides.
911 3.2 is maybe 5yrs away for me by the way, but I'm too busy building my empire to enjoy one right now as well as that and bags of cement would ruin the handling.

Image is baggage; I hate it.
I live in a place where none of my close mates give a hoot about cars; ours are just known as "nice" and that's it.
I buy purely on merit; one is a fairly odd looking hatch that to all but the most geeky, is a run of the mill shopping car.
The other is a slightly smart van.
It's all about how good a package they are, how reliable they are and how fun they are but they must not in any way look flashy.
There is no snobbery at all; if Kia made a cracking RWD hatch, I'd buy it. If Hyundai made a really good iLoad based camper, I'd buy it.

Just watched th top gear road trip 2 , nice little golf R vs a45 race by clarkson and Hammond. Both rolling 50mph ish I think , then they floor em, clarkson is gobsmacked he's left behind and by quite a way too, 6 to 7 car lengths
He is a lot bigger than Hammond but the golf is 150 kg lighter than the a45
Nice video love top gear great guys
Oh and yeh clarkson had to get in that the a45 costs 38 k lol tit

I'm getting a rather strange appreciation for anything that kicks that bloody Golf's butt. It's like the slightly boring kid at school that can seemingly do no wrong in the teachers eyes.

Back to the GTR wrx thing. I was watching a vid earlier with a GTR and a Focus RS and at one point the driver of the GTR said that his throttle was being taken away from him over the bumps because of traction control etc.

I wouldn't mind but I've seen a picture of a p1's speedo in a magazine,it showed it doing 179mph (even though i didnt think their gearing would do that) and like you say ditch, you've done 160 also with it pulling too.

Not sure what the 5 speed boxes are capable of gearing wise, I know the Hawk 6 speed can crack 200mph, you'd need something like 6/700bhp and very favourable conditions to do it though, I think you might struggle with a WRX though unless an aeroplane was involved.

scoobyjim,
It's such a shame you live in Kent as if you were in Manchester I'd like to benchmark my modded SL55 against your GTR killer to see what else I need to do to attain true performance.
If you're ever up Manchester way let me know as I suspect there's more than one WRX wagon out there that will kick my butt and it bothers me so I need to ether get serious with my car choice or chop mine in for a Scooby wagon. Actually if things work out may be we could swap with cash your way of course.
Cheers, f1

It's funny how people are saying scoobyJim is taking shìt and exaggerating what his wrx can do. He only said he had it over a 2 second burst, the GTR could of spun on a greasy bit of road or the GTRs traction control could have cut power because he hit a pot hole. Not that he has a giant killer that will destroy all.
Of course he could just be taking shìt.

I'm pretty sure the speedo's especially on Classics are out by at least 10%, my Type R was showing 150 odd mph at Donnington and my Apexi Power FC that I had at the time showed a max speed of 127mph, and GPS in my wagon shows it's at ish 10% higher reading on the speedo.

It say the WRX has always been super car slayer and how it embarrasses cars alot more expensive,so its not just a sh!tty wrx like sti lovers state! And near the end of video he asks, where is the wagon?? Hence he wants one!!
