MY11 Sti Saloon 19k miles engine failure

What really worries me is Tony was asked to sign an NDA. This could be a field day for Anti bribery lawyers. Why would a manufacturer ask a customer to sign an NDA over a product failure?

On the 1st Hatch the head gasket went and ringland failure i believe.......on the Spec D the head gasket has gone(im not sure of what other damage has or has not been caused) so when i said..... decided it was time for a rebuild, i meant the CAR decided not the owner and as for the 2nd Hatch the bloke that owns it knows its going let go judging by the amount that has gone before but yes i concede that it may not but would you put your mortgage on it not going?

Landover had a similar sort of thing (design fault) on their Rover V8 engines

because they prob have the 320 and 340R maps think Tonys was 340, that weren't actually pushing 340. Dodgy though to say the least.
I think the biggest gripe we all have with the 2.5s is that Subaru didn't issue a recall and fix the issue, with what we all deemed the solution forged Pistons.
I read 100s of posts when I had mine, and it all seems to relate to either bouncing off the Limiter, the engine being slow to adjust to Knock, and OIL/Fuel starvation on one side of the engine, we all speculated what it could be.
Subaru had a trump card though being a Scooby they knew it could be and would be remapped by the users, so using this as fuel to deny claims hurt even more.
So why change a plan that's working, we go on bleating, they just keep selling the cars to people, and if they do go to court what of it then ? recall ? compensation ?
if you really need a Scooby then run it for 3 years don't touch it and sell it.
or pay to play.
anyway can I just say id destroy Cheryl cole.....

When you say 'destroy' what exactly does that mean?
There are a lot of these coming on to the market now with people part exchanging for the new one. What would people advise buy it and see if it goes bang or allow for forging it in your budget and get it done immediately? If the latter how much are you looking at?
The problem with a used one is you will never know how the previous person drove it. If you buy a good example from a Subaru Dealer they give you a 12 month Subaru warranty and it goes bang. They scan the engine history and find the previous owner razzed the ***** off it who takes responsibility then? Can they actually tell the mark at which the new owner took over?

I think the Cossi is a different kettle of fish to this thread though in fairness but know what you are saying. What I am trying to say is you will never know how the previous owner treated the car modifications or not and if Subaru's get out is it has been redlined at some point then you are screwed double by them.

To be fair probably not a great difference in cost if went bang and forged it compared to doing it before it went. Unless it runs out of oil.
To be fair my pistons didn't fail. A piston ring was broke and maybe done in assembly.
I only forged pistons as a precaution whilst it was out.
My car is a standard 340r.
I've had the 340 map independently checked yes it's a very rich map but not a bad off the shelf map. Yes a custom remap would be better but that's always the case

Tony, what makes you think this? There are loads of causes for ring failure e.g. Over reving by snatching wrong gear, material defect, corrosion fatigue through short runs or corrosion sticking to bore, overheating, wrong gap, wrong piston groove width over filling with oil, pinking etc.

You can have a decent bottom end done for 3k that is rated to 450. It's not so much the cost of the pistons and rods etc, it's when you have to start adding bits in like head gaskets, timing belt kit, water pump etc it starts to get expensive, then the labour of pulling engine in and out and your builders time and knowledge, that's before even looking at the heads and stem seals etc.

I did 1000 run in and oil change.
Been irrational oil usage since 7months old
Never overfilled
340 map really rich doubt pinking
Never over rev,d
Never overheated
Ran everyday never stood
not top or bottom ring and only one piston.

Sounds like it broke at 7 months old then. Could easily be due to carbon deposits building up with all those short runs. How old was it when you had the 340R upgrade?
