As your not after big horsepower gains have you not considered the prodrive pack ?
There's not much to it (not telling you how to suck eggs) but its an ecu de cat upgrade panel filter and an intercooler samco type pipe.

I know it 'only' makes 240 bhp, but the difference between 240 and 280 is hardly a big deal, but the spread of torque will surprise you, and your car will be ultra reliable.

Its not just about numbers its how it drives.
As a comparison my friend has had his remapped with a bigger turbo front mount intercooler and a load of other bolt on ****e and it made 310bhp, mine bullys it through corners and only falls slightly behind on long-ish straight bits.
His drives horrible with lag mine drives lovely and is keen to go.

I would say do this first, if its still not enough you can easily sell the prodrive bits on again and try something else

10p worth

edit; his head gasket then went, may or may not be related to extra power.

Lol ok bud cheers, i have a prodrive ECU here, i would of tried it but getting stupid quotes to code to keys, £78 cheapest so far, where you get yours done?

I have sports cat and sports filter and going to upgrade intercooler.

If i have to pay £78 to recode ECU and then sell it, then recode my old ECU again to work with keys thats £156, then ESL £295 then remap £250, gets expensive

A properly mapped car will run rings around a generic map. If you are ultimately going the ESL route, the prodrive ECU will be dead money.

Thats what i was thinking, also if you can load OEM and prodrive map on before sending?

And you said about ESL bypassing imobilizer, which i'd prefer it not to, can this be arranged?

No problem re the maps.

We can keep the immob but would have to have your actual ECU and as it can't be done on an exchange basis it won't be turned around same day. TBH very few people go for this option, but it can be done.

Cheers

I see your point, mine just plugged in, so if i ever do anything to mine i can unplug it and flog on.
TBH i was going to do a lot to mine but ive decided its got plenty for what i do with it - hooning round the back lanes mostly. cheers

Not sure what version mine is 5 or 6, but its a 1999 and mine also has 3 plugs but cant remember what colour the plugs were now.

But it went in and started straight up when i did it.

I assumed they all did this, prob best to double check first.

As for other mods on mine, i'm considering some of the Harvey ported headers and up pipe, as this (supposedly) gets the turbo spooled up even quicker, and as its a easy bolt on mod for a few hundred quid probably worth a shot.

But that's as far as i think id go with mine, on this engine anyway

Lots of people say the 1997-1998 have immobilizer built into them, 1999-200 is separate to ecu been told

My 99 UK turbo has just made 251.1bhp with a Prodrive ECU, decat down pipe, prodrive backbox, prodrive intercooler pipework and a green panel filter. I've left the centre CAT in for now

I was more than happy with that for the minimal outlay and I can get my money back on the PPP ECU if I ever decide to go down the ECUTEK or ECULABS route.

So with a older one say 1993/1994. What injectors is on a Subaru 2000 Jap import. And what top intercooler would be a good upgrade and fit with no problem.

Early WRX had 380's.
Intercooler upgrade on the early cars is difficult. I'm fitting a later V4 STI cooler to mine but it takes a lot of work. Most go with front mount because it's easier or if you can find one then an ARC top mount is a decent upgrade.

I know bud, my old WRX was around 280 bhp, that was insane bhp, never known anything like it, i could over take any car any where with ease

Thats the power i miss, i will try my Prodrive ECU see how it drives then might upgrade to ESL if not enough power

Yes, ARC cooler will fit perfectly and is good enough for around the 350 bhp mark. They aren't cheap (usually around £200) and don't come up often but I've seen quite a few sell on here.

380's are good for about 280bhp but will do a bit more if you up the pressure with a FPR. Best bet would be to upgrade the injectors if heading that way power wise imo.

As for the meth, it can be used daily but remember the car will need mapping for it which is expensive. Gain wise, usual gains are in the region of 10% with a 20% mix but obviously varies.

The 300bhp target was seen as big about 10 years ago chap, 400 is now the norm with 500 not uncommon
Go drive a stripped out 400+ classic, now that's good fun.

Mine which is still running did 330bhp at standard fuel pressure. That's not advisable though.

600bhp+ in a blobeye is a bit naughty, even from the passenger seat!
