SPECS cameras sited on motorway repairs cost £38000 per camera, yet still make enough in fines to help pay for the repairs to the road.
Wiltshire only had 19 cameras? I though Swindon alone had that many? There were enough when I had my car mapped by BRD there.
My understanding was that before HMG nicked all the cash it generated, councils could keep the lot. Cameras were touted as necessary, life saving etc etc.
Then HMG took the revenue.
Suddenly cameras weren't so good and there were "better ways to police the roads", (funny, drivers had been saying that for yonks, hadn't they?)
Anyway.....You are either plod, a magistrate or run a scamera partnership and I claim my £5.

There is no way that is correct! £500 must be a mistake on the cops part. At the most it would £100 and I believe it would be non endorsable. Get it checked.
Also if it's wrong and a ticket, when you go to pay they will not take the money from you(if they know what they are doing). The cop will be notified but it will be binned

Worst thing you can do as a motorist is take a driving offence to court, I tried to be clever years ago by taking a speeding fine to court(56mph in 40mph limit), as I was told that police officers dont bother turning up to court for silly little speeding offences and it will get throw out of court when he dont turn up.
After sitting there for 5 mins I saw the copper turn up and then my heart sank, then I had to go into a court room full of people and give my side of the story etc, ended up being found guilty and had to pay £460 and have 4 points on my license!!
Lesson learned and when I got caught speeding the 2nd time, I paid up £60 fine and took the 3 points!!

Been there, bought the T-shirt.
Mine went from three points to four and the fine from £60 to £100.
They were going to base it on what the wife earns too, but I said no way...unless you want to see me in a year for divorce!
As I said: money making scam. Got done for £150 costs too, £50 for each of THEIR witnesses, the guy I called, a plod who I could have PROVED lied on his statement, didn't turn up..."Oh dear, well it doesn't matter anyway, you are guilty".
