I get what your saying about the batteries but they would have to be lithium to maximise the recovered energy, and lithium require a special monitored charger and can be very temperamental, the up side to using boost caps are the extremely fast charge and discharge time.

Still haven't had time to do any proper research yet so maybe there is a suitable battery i dont know about.

Nah you'd be all right with a regular lead acid or similar. As for charging, that's what the alternator is for...

I don't see why you can't use the ac drive belt or similar (remove the compressor) to add power. The belts themselves can already transmit a significant amount of power to the power steering pump and alternator, and in effect the DIY kers system is unlikely to provide more power than these two items combined, so if anything when the DIY Kers was activated you'd just negate these parasitic losses.
