A/C re-gas
Had noticed that I wasn't getting cold air with the A/C turned on last summer/spring and after a few quick checks noted that the compressor wasn't kicking-in when the A/C button was pressed. Quick chat with our service engineers and they suggested that the gas pressure was probably too low and the low pressure switch was stopping the compressor kicking-in, so a re-gas/diagnostics was needed.
Finally got around to looking into getting it sorted, asked my local garage and got the number of a specialist, David at Stable Air 07771 538360 (based in west Edinburgh). Called him today as he was pretty quiet came round at lunch. Really nice chatty guy, knows his stuff, and knows Subarus as it turns out.
Connected his equipment and found no gas in the system, he pressure tested and found no leak and commented that the alloy rads can become porous over time allowing the gas to leak out very very slowly and wasn't worth changing anything so just a re-gas was needed at a very reasonable £45.
Ready for the summer...

They seem to appear on ebay UK every so often going cheap as the sellers think there's no market for them in the UK. Got mine from an ebay company selling off dealer parts who had 3 or 4 for sale for £30! Sold the UK one I removed for £50 on ebay[/QUOTE]
Now there's a stroke of luck....don't happen to still have the link do you??
Will keep an eye out - thanks chap..

coolant header tank changed
So finally got around to replacing the untidy looking coolant header tank
got a spare tank and had it blasted and powder coated traffic red, powder coaters did a perfect job as usual...
polished-up the cap and got a new matching red sticker from ebay
old verses new...
Took about 20mins to fit including draining the tank with a suction pump...

Don't think I'll be needing this with 260bhp & the Scottish climate!

...a bolt plugging the hole from a failed attempt at using my easibleed for bleeding the brakes...thought if I could use the existing cap it would work but didn't realise it doesn't seal properly. Old fashioned 2 man method was needed!

Nice project modrich. you've given me a few ideas on what might need looking at on mine.
You've got a similar HU to me. I just bought the Pioneer Appleplay one with no CD slot...its like having an Ipad on the dash!
Out of interest, as you've got the exact spec wheels i was going to go for...do you think that a lower ET is achievable without arch work? Only reason i ask is that i'm struggling to find something i like withing those constraints.

Yeah I really like the Pioneer, although I wish it had proper app radio for android so I could display the torque app on the screen. Are getting FM radio reception Ok? Mine is really poor and the OEM FM booster seems to be working ok. Need to fit the DAB antenna I've got on the shelf!
I was surprised how well the Revolutions fill the arches with a pretty modest 18x7.5 ET48. Before fitting them I was thinking I would need spacers to finish off the look but I think they look spot-on. I'm guessing you could go about another 5mm without arch work depending on how low the suspension is. I'll probably go another summer with the 225/40s on then go 235/40s to give more rim protection so this might improve the look a step further.
Thanks for the comments lads

Im not really sure on my radio reception to be honest. Im still just trying to get the thing set up properly. Talk about complicated!
Yeah i agree, et48 actually looks nice a flush. Its just that all the wheels i like a typically et45. Hopefully another 3mm wont make much difference on standard ride height.

Revolutions back on...
All this talk of Revolution Millenniums has prompted me to get mine swapped back over with the winter wheels. Over the winter I got some TPi steel/chrome wheel nuts and had some custom centre badges made-up to replace the originals, thought I would get them done to match the red/white 4 pots. Never liked the originals as they just looked too 'classic car' for my liking...

So on the way home a few weeks back steam started pouring from under the bonnet, pulled over and couldn't see where it was coming from. After it had cooled a little I had a good rumage and found the top hose had split, luckily I hadn't lost alot of coolant so thoughts of seized engine quickly faded...
Luckily I was next to a local garge who did a temporary repair by sleeving the split section and charging me a total of £2.41 for the hose clips, top bloke!
As soon as I got home I started looking for a replacement hose but quickly decided it was time to get some more under bonnet bling and ended up with a full set of silicone hoses...in red...and a new rad...Overkill I know but as it was the original rad and seen as they are only £50 made sense to complete the overhaul of the cooling system.
old rad & fans removed and area hosed and cleaned out
New rad came well packaged from CoolPartsUk
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUBARU-IMP...item43d79f6ed6
Was very impressed with the quality of this rad even though it's not a genuine one. It's very important to get the correct 26mm core thickness like the OEM one
complete with new rad cap and chain!
drain plug
Old fans removed and cleaned
and refitted to new rad with bottom hose (bottom hose ended-up needing a trim, so no need to fit at this stage)
Rad in place and bottom hose trimmed to fit perfectly so there was no kinks/twists that would restrict flow
and to finish of the engine bay, some red hoses for the header tank
I'm getting a slight burning oil smell but only when reversing in my parking space at work so next job...rocker cover gaskets...
