They probably were but if your boat is turning turtle this wouldn't have made much difference.
I remember the story of the Sydney Hobart race when people got swept overboard despite being clipped on. Lifelines can snap, One person took the wheel and pedestal with them.

Mine are 1" webbing , probably take 1/2 ton to snap them

If you are using climbing style webbing the "failure" strain is about 25kn, which is 2.5 tonne....

If you are using it as a piece of safety equipment it should be marked with a breaking strain etc anyway

A cubic meter of water weights about a ton. This is what scares the hell out of me, imagine the forces contained by a rouge wave.....

The jackstays, a lengths of webbing running from front to back of boat ( which you clip onto) is rated at 3ton - if it's not wire.
