He'd have to be retarded to stand, so your comment is of no substance. Were we dealing with a marginal then the circumstances would be entirely different.
UKIP will probably put up a candidate but you sacrifice pawns, not the Queen, for a play like that.
Mr Farage told BBC One's Breakfast: "I haven't had long to think about it but I have thought about it, and we're just over three weeks away from a European election at which I think UKIP could cause an earthquake in British politics, from which we can go on and win not just one parliamentary seat but quite a lot of parliamentary seats.
"For that reason I don't want to do anything that deflects from the European election campaign, so I'm not going to stand in this by-election.
Patrick Mercer announced last year he would not contest the next general election
"I want to focus the next three weeks on winning the European elections and also I don't have any links with the East Midlands. I would just look like an opportunist, and I don't think that would work."

He didn't mention anything about not standing because of the huge Tory majority and the fact that he'd lose. Again, you are giving him a pass you'd never give to another politician

Thank god, you saved me the effort of doing all the typing, not that I could have done it as well as you though. I just hope people get it , I am sure one of the other party leaders in his position would have done the same because there like magpies, they just like shiny things.

Giving him a pass?

He speaks the truth and, because he didn't come out and make a foolish statement like "I know I can't win this one", (EVER heard a politician say that???), you criticise him.

Someone on here has an entrenched position, and it's not the rest of us, LOL.

If you think Farage speaks the truth, then I'm seriously worried about your judgement.

What he actually does conflate issue, use half truths, and create scares

No, he does what all politicians do, to a greater or lesser extent.

But SO FAR, he has done no damage to the UK.

And after what Thatcher did, what your lot did and then stood by while it was done and what the present lot are up to, at least as far as the European elections are concerned, Farage is my choice.

Did you just see him on c4 news, the presenter made him SELF look like a ***. Oh yes of course all the other party's check every single person who gives money. Everyone is just mud slinging as Neil Hamilton put it and he's right. You have got to ask yourself why all the other party's just mud sling at UKIP . They don't do it to each other, they try and fight each other on political policy. With UKIP I think they are to scared to confront them on there policy's.

We need change, we need someone that has the uk best interests at heart, Farage could be the answer.

He may be or may not be the answer. But, he'll get my vote anyway. I'll vote for them simply to register my discontent with the others.

And as the doubters say that Ukip will never win, it doesn't matter if I vote for them even though they probably and will only serve themselves (should the unimaginable actually happen), just as the other parties serve themselves.

They'll be able to provide us all with the jobs those foreign Charlies are nicking off us*

Once we've pulled out of Europe.

Won't we miss the Eastern European women?

Seriously, if you see a slim girl over the age of about 16 in this town, 90% chance she's Eastern European........

These foreign Charlie's are cheap labour. A continual flow of impoverished workers is insured through immigration (both legal and illegal), who by working for less ££££ continually drive wages down. For the vast majority of people the standard of living will not increase, but constantly decrease.

Keep the conversatives in I reckon. Seriously who thinks that any party wants to come into power and make lots of cuts and make themselves unpopular? They've done it for the greater good and it needed to happen.

They could've come in and gone on a spendin spree to appease voters but that wouldn't be good for the long term of the country. Their fixing a rather big hole in the roof and should be given the chance to carry on. Do people seriously think that UKIP or Labour would do any better?!

Make lots of cuts? Yet borrowing has gone up under them?

AND they always seem to be able to find a few £m if they want something.......
