I hope so. I'll find out when I fit the new sender, if not hopefully I've caught the problem early.
But, I still think I'd like to keep my eye on the prv, or mod it if anyone knows what to do?

I would say it's a faulty sender unit in your case Kwik.

On a standard 10mm oil pump, the PRV will open at 85psi (5.8 Bar).
Photo below is a modified straight bodied PRV ( Cosworth and RCM ) and the standard one below it.

Will do. It still concerns me how often these PRV'S are meant to fail.
