Default Trouble programming new key fob

Hi ladies and gents

I have purchased a new key as I only got one when I bought the car but I am having trouble programming it to work in my car.

I drive a 2008 Subaru Impreza RX 2.0 N/A petrol. It has keyless entry/start and no key barrel at all so the turning the key 10 times is not an option. I looked for the programming button near the OBD 2 port as suggested by a forum but I don't think my car has one.

What there is is a little keypad under a flap near the steering column which looks like the one that is on the Sigma S30 alarm however they remotes are nothing like the ones on the Sigma alarm. Never the less I tried doing the method where you type in the code and it beeped a couple of times and flashed but then I pressed the button on the key and nothing.

Lastly my key is a large rectangle shaped one like you get on the 2013 Legacy and Outback except I don't have the red light button on mine, only the three standard ones: lock, unlock and trunk release.

Does anyone have any idea how it could be programmed? I am also missing the original key ID and security card that should have come with the car from the factory so I don't know what I could do. Any ideas?

Yeah i was hoping that isn't the case because the dealership would charge me £35 plus VAT and travel to the nearest one isn't cheap either so i was hoping someone knows how to do it

Subaru laptop only job I'm afraid.

you need a 5 digit teaching code which only the dealer will have access to which will allow you to program the new fob to the immobiliser then program the immobiliser to the engine ecu

It opens car and turns ignition on but engine just turns over and over.

Can i use my own laptop and tactrix cable romraider to sort this ?

The dealership said that it might not be programmable but I have a second hand one to try it as a new key cost £280 plus vat so I was going to try it with a second hand key but if it is definitely a no go then I will return that key and consider buying a new one.
