I think 3500 is usually peak torque on a wrx with a td04 but it doesnt look like the guy went WOT until 3k so maybe a delay in spool?

1.25 bar is a lot of boost for a td04, is this outside the efficiency range for the turbo?, Hotter air could be causing you to lose power, also was the car cooled down a bit before doing the final power run? I find that you can gain up to 5bhp by letting the intercooler cool down a bit between runs / use the IC spray.

Your peak power wont be at the point of peak boost, if you have a boost gauge or some way of logging boost, have a look at what the boost level is at your peak bhp rpm range. It could be that your turbo is not holding boost at that rpm range for whatever reason e.g. faulty wastegate actuator, boost controller.

Is this something I need to be worried about it going bang or will it be fine to carry on driving.

Has a slight leak on the up pipe so wondering if that's the cause of the fluctuation?

I would have a word and ask why the fluctuation in power as the graph shows,if there is a leak in the exhaust system then it needs sorting,the problem should of been picked up on the remap tbh and as said the WOT pull on the graph seems to have been done late.
You will need a remap once the leak has been fixed.

Na, I've had two separate newage son td04's both mapped to 1.35 bar peak on td04's. Obviously tapering off up the revs. One was Andy forrest and the other was ppp I think

JCR34, I would get that leak fixed and take it back for a map check / tweak. Ask to see a boost printout. With the torque being up and down like that, you could well have a weak actuator (which will be apparent if you look at the boost printout), a dodgy boost controller or just the map isn't right or you may have had knock during the run.

Boosted, what is your boost pressure at peak power with your td04? So JCR34 can compare.

No real data, although peak power is going to be about 5000rpm with about 1.1 bar iirrc. Was a long time since I've ran such a small turbo!

Prob cos they don't know any better. It takes a few hours map a car properly and should be road tested after being mapped and he does it in 20 mins and doesn't bother to road test.

Very few decent mappers around, Paul B but doesnt do alot of public mapping now i understand, Pat Herborn, Andy Forrest and Engine tuner.

In the 10years I've had my wagon it's been mapped by Paul Blamire, Bob Rawle, Duncan Graham.
Bob Rawle was the quickest and Paul took more time. For the last four years Duncan has looked after my car and for me he's always got better results.
For anyone judging a mapping session they might do well to first judge what their own contribution was before spreading blame

If you're looking for a mapper then Zen performance at Earith (a couple of miles nothing of Cambridge) are very good and experienced. They haven't got a website to speak of but you can find them on Facebook.

How many of your cars has Dunc mapped????
Or are you just going on word of mouth?

There are a few 'big' mappers that always get recommended, but I have seen very average [or below average] results from their maps

I have used Dunc for the last 7 years and 6 different maps. When I have been on the rollers at various companies (Area 52, Scoobyclinic, GR performance, John Sleath Racing, etc) the map has been spot on, good AFR and BHP.

I have heard about more destroyed engines from other big mappers, but the owners don't publicise what happened

Duncan maps my blob sti for me, either at rcm or on road and after a rolling road session hes always asked me to road test mine while he checks his map. Hes never mapped my car in 20 mins, so thats a load of b0ll0cks. Its normally about 2-3hrs a session.

My car runs well and has done for a couple of years and the map looks spot on to me,

I bet most of the people slagging off his mapping on here have never even had a car mapped by him.

I don't usually get involved in mapper wars but...Myself and many friends have had Duncan map our cars and have never had any issues yet I had a simtek fitted and mapped by a mapper who always gets smoke blown up his **** then mapped by another mapper who didn't rate the first mappers work.

He then subsequently had two bites at the cherry because first time the cold start and idle was terrible and it was also detting it's **** off!

There are probably stories about all these guys.
