Subaru powered 205 track car.
Ok so it has been a while since i last posted on here and i think its about time i share my new project.
Some of you may remember my last project the subaru powered escort which i sold i while back now and is still in action i belive...

The 205 is well under way now, i started off building a jig and bolting it to the underside of the car so i can line up all the pick up points perfectly and keep everything nice and square.
I cut out the floor and bulkhead section and welded in the same size section of subaru in there so i can use all the stock pick up points for the engine/suspension and subframe ect although i have mounted it 35mm further back giving me more room in the engine bay and allowing me to fabricate some new lower wisbones mounting the front wheels further forward giving me more positive caster in the aid of handling.
I am going to be fabricatin all my own rear pick up points as i want to keep as much of the rear shell in tact as possible.
The main roll cage is fitted and tied into the front and rear suspension turrets. The car is going to be fitted with a t16 style wide arch kit to suit the wider track and i am thinking of painting the car white with gold alloys.
The doner car is an sti v4 thanks to John (scoobyboy1)
So short wheel base 4wd with just under 300bhp should be fun.

The kit is basicly a dimma kit but i will be completly cutting out the vents in the rear quarters and fitting a mesh simular to the t16 and using them to feed air to a rear mounted radiator, the last pic is just a trial fit of the panels.

Update Time!
Ok so its been a while since i last updated this, here's what ive been up too..
The first job was to make suitable mounts to bolt in the rear subframe so i made up some new chassis rails out of 2mm steel to pick up the subframe and the roll bar..

The next thing was to bolt on the subframe with the hubs, shocks and trailing arms to see how it all lines up.
Everything looks good so i then needed to look at the mounting points for the trailing arms and the diff cradle.
I cut out a section of the old steel and made up some new mounts.

So all the pick up points are now finished
The next task was to remove all the old underseal and treat any rust.
After spending hours trying to get the underseal off using a selection of wire brush wheels for the drill i stumbled across one of these..
Say hello to my little friend!!!
A knotted wire brush wheel to fit in the grinder, it literaly blitzed the underseal off in no time at all, awsome tool!
The next task was to remove all the old underseal and treat any rust.

OThe whole underside had now been rubbed down, degreased and etch primed on the bare metal and a couple of coats of red oxide primer to keep it protected, i will be painting the top coat with some industrial enamel white paint which should nice and durable against stone chips etc.

I have had a few days off work so thought i may aswell knuckle down and get some of the ****ty jobs out the way so i set about de rusting the subframes and suspension arms etc.
Ready for paint..
And freshly painted nice and shiny..
Some more bits been rubbed down and coated in rust converter..
