I need to move a fridge/freezer, this weekend, and I've been told that I will need to keep this upright because of the gases in the refrigeration unit. Is this true?? Wasn't sure on the person who told me this, as he's a bit of a joker.
And does anyone know how long it should be left running after moving before it can be used.
Thanks!!

If you can keep it upright, that's better, but as long as you let it stand for 24-36 hours before turning it back on (to let the gases settle, as has been mentioned) you should be fine.

The actual reason for letting it lie for a while is that oil in the motor gets all sloshed about and there may not be enough to keep it lubricated when its turned back on, leading to premature wear, seizure etc. Leaving it a while, allows the oil to soak back down to the bottom.
If you transport your fridge without tipping it over on its side, then you can avoid the wait... (tail-lifts and trolleys)
