I have been struggling with this windows update error for a few days now without resolution.
Tried several possible solutions but all have failed so far.
Any ideas ?

I have exhausted most of the microsoft solutions , but none have so far been successful.Including the one above.
I have established that some files within the windows update installer is corrupt.
Its looking like I will have to re-install windows .

What a terrible OS that it breaks the system when updating. I just remembered that my mate bought a new laptop with win 8, it did the same. So he took it back and got a refund

I had a problem with my windows 7 where it failed to update (new build) and it had 157 updates to do.
I went into the control panel then programs and from there selected the windows update, unticked most of the updates and did them in smaller batches, seemed to work for me abiet a little long winded
