Hi guys, i read all these different reports on tyres, cost and recommendations etc and on average looks like everyone spends about £70+ on each tyre.
I'm up for a set of 4 tyres i've been on mytyres .co.uk and the cheapest they do are about £39, ok this sounds very cheap but they are R rated and to be honest with your for normal driving rather than maybe most of you that like a thrash around a circuit i can't see much difference to while doing a daily commute..comments ?

if you are going to scrimp on the 4 most important parts of the why bother??? you may as well as drive a mundano deisel

 

I ride a bike to so i know about 2 bits of rubber the size of your palm between you and road !, but come on for your normal commute ? What about Faulken ?

Ok it's not the best tyre but they haven't really slated it.
I'll have a look for some other tyre on the above site and get some more ratings.

most people tend to swear by the goodyear f1's to be honest - you can get good deals on them and i think even on a commute you will use the tyres and will need good grip if you need to stop quickly.

 

Just looked on the that site for reviews of the Faulken FK-452 £57.20 delivered, they get a a good write up and cheaper than the GY F1's.

Running Pirelli P6000's at the moment and they're crap.

 

why are the pirellis bad ? weird you say that yet were prepared to go for even worse tyres

there are plenty of tyre review threads on SN where huge numbers of people have shared their experiences of different tyres - the majority say goodyear f1

 

They're very noisy and not that good in the wet, TBH i've never liked Pirelli tyres even when i had them on my old XR2. Somtimes expensive isn't always the best and i'm sure there are unknown tyres out there that are just as good as our household names. I'll probably go for those Faulken 452's they get a good write up and at £57 not too bad a price, and i know a guy that'll come round and fit them for £10 a tyre so i don't even have to waste petrol getting to the fitting station ! he'll do my bike tyres too !

 

Michelin PS2's all the way - did the Nurburgring at Easter with these and the car stuck like glue. Really happy with these tyres. They also seem to last a while.

 

How much do you pay for the Michelin's ?, we have a Costco near us but not sure if they do the higher rated tyres for the Scooby. That's why i was after a cheaper alternative as my wife only does a daily commute of about 30 miles round trip so we don't really want an all singing all dancing tyre as we don't and won't do track days. I leave that for the bike !

 

i had fitted set of 4 Kumho KH18...........absolutely terrible in dry and wet.....thought id warn you mr petrolhead

 

When you say for your normal commute, does that mean you take em off at weekends and change em to someat proper then? No, does it ****, you just want a cheap tyre and thats all there is to it.
Yet you will still sling it all over the place when you feel like it!
Tell you what, you go and buy them, then come back on here and tell us all what they are like when you start giving it some welly around corners! LOL.

The biggest problem with budget tyres is wet/damp performace.

And seein the UK is wet 80% of the year. All it takes is a somebody to cut you up, or a kid to run out infront of you and you'll know why you paid so little for them.

The amount of the cheap skate public that go around with the like of Road Champ tyres on their car which provides highly inferior wet grip, make me wish they were banned.

And btw...all perelli P-series tyre are poor in the wet - always have been since the original P6 right up the P6000, as they are also a budget tyre, even though they aren't priced as such..blame the huge mark up at the tyre retailers.
