Cool

During the recent thread about 4 or 5 door models being best, I noticed coments about putting sound insulation down in the boot area of the wagon.

Does this really make a big difference?

What do you guys use to do the job?

I think it made a great improvement to road noise and the sound of the rear speakers.

I had some pukka wadding left over from an interior refit on an old car. It's about 30mm thick recycled fabric stuff. Should be available from the 'replacement carpet' people (see Car Mags).

I ripped out & replaced the standard stuff as it was all but useless, an extra circle on top of the spare helped to stop the tools etc. from rattling.

For high frequency noise (tyre noise particularly) a bit of extra underseal should help. You can get self adhesive panels of sound deadening material for use inside to kill any panel vibration. Try good Car-Audio places.

Hope this helps

Chris

I hadn't noticed PTMW! was actually that noisy. Mind you the other car is a diesel & my bike has a race can...

I have upgraded the speakers & (when on my own) play loud music, so can't hear road noise

On track days, I need to hear the song of the engine, with backing vocals/tunes from Pink Floyd

PTMW: Not sure if the insulation on mine was in a 'normal' state beforehand, it was a bit tinny and it was road noise rather than engine noise which was a problem.
The latter will soon have the accompanyment of a Magnex backbox so I guess I will never hear anything else again!
