Default Changing from 205/50s to 205/55s

When I bought my car for some reason the previous owner fitted 205/50/16s on the front and 205/55/16s on the rear.
I need 2 new front tyres as they are worn on the inside, money is a bit tight at the moment and rather than fit new cheap tyres I have decided to get decent part worns instead eg Goodyears,Toyos etc
The problem is everywhere I go the 205/50s are not great and in short supply, but the 205/55s are easier to come by and are generally in better condtion ie the tread depths are between 5 and 7 mm which I would say is pretty decent.
If I change from 50s at the front to 55s would it make a lot of difference to my handling etc this is just a temp fix and when my money situation improves I will change all 4 tyres to 50s.
Any input would be greatly appreciated thanks..

I think the profile NEEDS to be the same on all four corners to stop problems with the diffs.

I would always try and keep the tyre tread depth as even as possible front to rear by swopping the wheels every 3 months.

I was thinking that Welloiled I know the standard sizes are 50s but I wasnt sure if fitting 55s would alter the speedo or handling thanks for your reply.

Its up to you, but for your reference, you can get brand new budgets, on the 205/50/16 for £46.90 and brand new budget 205/55/16 for £41.80, thats both with a high speed rating aswell. I've currently got bridgestone on the rear but as i bought the wheels from a mate, he stuck some 'WANLI'S' budgets on the front, quite a lot of grip but they are good fun to drive with!!Tyre prices are from www.mytyres.co.uk .

Good Luck.

John

Hi Jonesy,
My main concern was changing from the recommended 50s to 55s more than the price although I appreciate your reply thanks.
I have been offered 2 x goodyears or pirelli with 6mm tread for 60 quid part worn since new tyres come with 8mm I think it's a good deal, and since I don't do trackdays or boot it everywhere (must be getting old) I think they will last as long if not longer than budget tyres.
I don't think changing to 55's at the front will make a lot of difference.
Thanks Stevie
