i have noticed that on very hard cornering and heavy braking the front tyres rub the wheel arches.
the RB5, MY1999 is running standard wheels (17") 215/40/17 tyres & suspension.
Mileage is 48,000.
My question is: are my shocks or springs, or both f****d and due replacing?
cheers

Hi Mark
The original tyre size on the RB5 was 205/45-17 Maybe the offset the RB5 wheel has is allowing the slightly wider tyre to rub?

Hi Mark,
I've ran 215/40/17's on my original RB5 Speedlines for the past 3 years without ANY rubbing. I've even moved to 225/35/18's and still don't have any rubbing issues.
I do have some replacement dampers/springs to fit to my car as it pitches too much on hard braking.
I personally don't think it's the wheel/tyre combination unless there's a problem with the tracking or some part of the suspension is way out from standard e.g. something's bent.

Hi guys
thanks for the replies
the original 205/45 shoes still saw the rubbing on the arches and the geometry has all been set up to the prodrive settings.

geo would have to be way off the mark to see any rubbing on a std car. Is the suspension altered from the std RB5 trim?
You usually see rubbing on the rear of the car rather than the front on a classic and you should see any rubbing when completely std. I'd suspect the springs or dampers.

Remove the plastic trim from the wheelarch lip?
