The VTS is set to be reborn! Following the lukewarm VTR and lightweight GT, Auto Express can reveal that the iconic VTS badge will be revived during the first half of next year and be worn by Citroen's new C2 hot hatch flagship.

The VTS, which is likely to come with a full bodykit as standard, will be powered by a tweaked version of the C2's existing 1.6-litre 16-valve four-cylinder petrol engine, but the output will be increased to 125bhp - 15bhp more than the VTR. Performance will be enhanced further by the five-speed manual gearbox, which has been chosen instead of the VTR's standard SensoDrive paddleshift system. Engineers decided on a conventional manual as the SensoDrive is already at its peak power rating in the VTR. The VTS is expected to cost between £12,500 and £13,500.

Looks like fun

The rear window lower edge, being lower than the bottom of the door glass, looks wrong to me.

In fact it looks like a 'Tefal Turbo Pro 400' to to me. And I know my irons.

Looks like Citroen have given it some 'retro' styling :

Spot the difference ?

The Saxo was a great way for the young 'uns to get started on the performance car ladder, but I think the C2 styling may be too 'cutesy' for them.

If it goes like the Saxo VTS did then it should still get a good following....

Although the Sax wasn't ballistic it was still a lot of go for the money. Ive enjoyed mine immensely. Although my name certainly wont be on the list for the C2. I need more speed now!

The power output from the engine is good but the car looks crap, is underpower and will be slower than the out-going VTS. In a market that includes the 172bhp cup, the 197bhp CTR, 180bhp 206 GTI, etc this car just can't compete. In fact, I'd bet the outgoing Saxo VTS would out drag the C2 VTS. Frankly its just not good enough and I suspect the sales will reflect this. Unless citroen plan a VTT then they are screwed

At least they've had the sense to put a manual 'box in it as opposed to the w4nky paddle-shift in the other C2.
I think the hot-hatch market is now split in two with the Civic Type-R and Pug 206 GTi 180 at the 'upper end' and the C2 at the lower end. Still the Clio Cup can be had for about £10k and has loads more power than the C2 so it's a no brainer really. Its a shame Renault are stopping making the Cup it really was a performance bargain.

Piddly boy racers car, 125bhp PMSL, why bother!! Fraid you'll not impress any impreza turbo owners on here with that little gay thing. Think your better trying a citroen forum with this not a Scoob one.
