Insurance Renewal letter:

"Quote to renew your Liverpool Victoria motor insurance

For your convenience, unless you tell us to the contrary, we will automatically renew your policy and the renewal premium will be charged to your MASTERCARD card 5 days before the insurance expires."

Is this standard practice these days? Good job the quote was competitive, otherwise I'd have just thrown the letter in the bin!

Actually, it appears to be about £100 cheaper than last year at £645

I think the line 'for your convienience unless you tell us otherwise' is the key thing here. It is putting the onus on you to chase them if you don't wish to renew.

I would expect the majority of people keep with there existing insurer at renewal time, be it car, household, pet, ... It cuts down on admin costs for the insurer and customer, which leads to better premiums and less stressful life.

The majority of my insurers have adopted this policy.
