ABS coming on early causing pedal vibration & noise, please help.
Any help greatly appreciated.Since getting our WRX 01 which came with 2 pot calipers (jap imp) 6m ago car makes a vibration through pedal and its audabile. Noise hard to describe, maybe like a grindy or springy sound (husband says like wooden chair dragged across floor!). Even doing it since upgrading to 4 pot.and larger discs. It only does it when braking at slow speed. When pedal released its fine. Having bashed our heads together with other car enthusiasts everyone sems to say its def ABS related, like its cutting in to early. ABS light coming on/off as normal, when starting engine. ALso knew front 2 pot caliper was binding front drivers side and a local garage thought this might have been the cause but despite having changed brakes its still doing this noise. Braking performance seems superb! Just noise.
Its driving me mad as sure people outside car can hear it as i drive in slow traffic in London.
Could the ABS sensor be knackered? any advice would be great as driving as mad!!! anyoneelse come across this?
cheers

you will need to check all 4 corners
Many thanks for your responses.
Well husband removed abs sensors on front so far and pain stakingly spun each front wheel to inspect/clean the abs rings tooth by tooth. Havent yet tried removing fuse and will try!
Called a scooby dealer who said they hadnt come across this prob before lol

I think I have the same issue with the noise and vibration on the brake pedal at very low speeds. Also, my ABS warning light comes on if I drive over 80 for a period of time, not sure if it's related.... where are the ABS sensors located so that I can visually inspect them?

P.S. Can you tell me how to get at the ABS sensors to check them?

before i go into verbal uber drive, i must stress that the brakes work really well apart from this bloody noise which happens at the point just before you come to a holt, as in really slow speeds and sounds like a wooden chair being dragged across a wooden floor.. it is also felt in the foot peddle..well just like abs cutting in!
The plott thickens:
so far I have removed both front ABS sensors and inspected both ABS hub rings slowly turning each front wheel to view the rings tooth by tooth(took ages) then cleaned each tooth if any dirt was noticed. also removed the ABS sensors, inspected and cleaned then relocated. noise still present! no change.
Today:
I removed both ABS sensors and replaced with 2 spare ones that i borrowed off another mates car, i know they work so its just for the test! their really easy to change took 10mins. and .... you guessed it no change!
i have also unplugged to 2 ABS front sensors and took the car for a small test run and although the ABS light on the dash remained on; the noise does disappear too so.... its a deffo ABS issue, rather then noisey calipers.
now at this point apart from knowing for sure that im dealing with an ABS issue, i don't really feel im any further closer to solving the strange noise as i knew for sure that it never was the calipers to begin with as the noise was present from when we had the 2 pots up front. the brakes are much much better having gone to 4 pots so were happy about that at least.
but what else is there to check? and why is the ABS coming on like this in the first place. I wish that I had some standard alloys as i have read that the rims could be slightly buckled and can cause this same thing, it was also on TV(does anyone watch the Garage with Scottish bloke Jock) he had a golf that was doing somthing very similar. the massive rims it had were fubarred. were running 18" sti gobbies.they seems straight with no wobbles at any speeds.
anyone else got any other idea's cos i'm running out things to try. i guess next is to think about a poss faulty ABS control unit, how much will that ****** cost...
anyone any more idea's on what might be causing this issue?
ps sorry bout the long blog but im totally stumped!

a very interesting read, that shows a new dimention of thought.

ok further investigative work carried out, continued on the same theme as yesterday by removing the rear wheels and then the ABS sensors, rear drivers side was really really fecking dirty so this wont be helping things.
gave it a good clean and inspection, slowly checked the reluctor ring again turning it to inspect tooth by tooth and reinstalled.
then I checked the Pas side rear and found the ABS sensor bent! and the tip was like the end of a mangled flat blade screw driver. I then inspected the reluctor ring and found that it's badly cracked and it therefore damaged the sensor at some point. so I have a complete 2nd hand rear hub enroute, this is the complete unit with an inspected none damaged reluctor ring and abs sensor; lets hope this cures it the noise.
can't friggen wait.

final blog!!! NOISE NOW GONE!!!!!!
I have replaced the pas side rear relurtor ring(the whole hub actually including the ring) cheaper option!! Also the bent sensor has been replaced, took the car for a spin, and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and the noise is finally gone!!!!!!!!!
this noise has been here since I purchased as it we believed to be a faulty caliper, I did get it cheaper because of this and in terms of money spent, it's been more a labour of love then a money thing! and a big pain in the ****!!!
but it's now sorted... thanks to all the reply's and comments regards to this.
