18" PRODRIVE PFF7'S WITH TOYO T1R 225/40/18 Y TYRES
Hi I have just fitted these to my 05 STI and to my horror find the handling really scary compared with the original 17" Subaru fitment wheels and tyres.
It seems to slide all over the shop, almost feels like the tyres are under inflated, they are filled to 32 psi. Is this the correct pressure for these?
Could it be that they need to have a couple of hundred miles worth of use to take a layer of new rubber off or should they grip like **** straight out of the box?
Has anyone else experienced a lack of grip with these tyres over the standard set up?

I am told that they take a while to scrub in so yes take it easy. Some love them others hate them. You should be pumping them to somewhere in the region of 37 Front and 35 rear to compensate for the soft sidewall. These tyres have been criticised for movement in the tread pattern. The other factor is that on an 8" wheel 225's can handle differently (tramline) as idealy 235's are better suited to an 8" wheel. You may also want to get you car re-aligned.
I have 2 sets of T1R's, track and road, yet to be tested as I usually go for Vredesteins on my New Age but they don't make them in classic sizes. The tyres are pumped to 38/36.5 which are spot on for me. On the New Age I run 37/35 but the tyres I am using have nice stiff side walls.

Oh right that's surprising as these were delivered with 32 psi in all 4! Now that would make a big difference I expect.
It did also feel like the treads were flexing around so yes I can well believe that comment.
I will adjust to those pressures and wait until I have covered some more mileage before I hammer it again, I honestly thought I had lost it on one corner which I used to take at a higher speed with the old wheels and tyres!

On recomendation I played around with the pressures until I found a set up I liked.
Some people are funny about tyre pressures and like you say run 32's or lower. Try the 37front/35rear and see how you get on, if you haven't already get yourself a digital tyre inflator, with the lower profile and too many corners mean I check/adjust mine at least once a month.

I have these on my my53 sti (see my profile) and they grip like a cheetah chasing an antelope. Anyway go get the wheel alignment sorted and all should be well and yes I go for higher serrings of 36/34 (having said all this I have good suspension mods).

I have just fitted 18 prodrive wheels with Goodyear 225 to my 07 WRX and was shocked how the feel had gone and the bad tramlining. Can anything be done with the tramlining or is it a case of 235 tyres?

I have T1S's on my 18's and it also seems to slide more than I would like in the wet. I would have thought that increasing the tyre pressure would only make this worse ? Usually to increase grip you reduce the pressure to increase the contact patch of the tyre (well, certainly on tail happy rear wheel drive stuff) As far as I know the T1R has a stiffer sidewall than the 'S' anyway so my car should probably be worse than yours !
