Just had a set fitted (WRX05 ppp) after having Bridgestone 050 for the last two sets.

Initial thoughts are that they are more 'comfortable', i.e. feel softer. This isn't a good thing!

I'll check what comedy pressures the tyre place gave me today, this might have something to do with it.

I had a high speed moment going round a corner though; the tyres only have 30 (slow) miles on them - do they improve?

The Bridgestones seemed to be fine right from the start.

I've got Prodrive springs, and whiteline rear arb on the stiffest setting - would I need to think about changing the arb setting due to different tyres?

Hopefully I'll get more chance to test them today, but so far I'm not that impressed.

Anyone offer some advice to cheer me up?

 

I always run my new tyres in for a 100 miles or so; same as brake pads.

Not sure where this info first originated but it's something I find difficult not to do!

 

Give them a while and they will get alot better,you won't be getting a full footprint of tread on the floor yet and as they wear so well it can take a while,they are a very good tyre so you will be pleased.

 

Had exactly the same when I went to T1-R's, thought 'oh ****e these are pants..!'. However after around 200 miles or so they scrubbed in nicely and became very good IMHO..

New tyres need a wearing in period, for the reasons already mentioned, but also they tend to be covered in a greasy release agent from the molding process that needs scrubbing off.

When we did a tyre test a couple of years ago we found that the PS2 worked pretty much straight out of the box. By the second corner on our site they felt hooked up whereas the Nero needed a couple of miles to clear the release agent. We tried the T1-R but found that they felt like they'd never scrubbed in, even after 10,000 miles...........

As the PS2 has quite a compliant sidewall you may need to increase the pressures to suit your chassis spec or back off the rear bar a bit.

Agree with Mike on this one, within a few miles the grip was there. The Neros took an age in comparison. I run my car with the arb in the mid setting with the tyres 34F/32R on 18's.

 

35+ all round mate, brilliant tyre.
Probably the quieter more comfortable ride putting you off.

I always get the alignment checked when having new tyres too.

 

I feel ike a fraud now; they're actually PE2, i.e. Exalto.

Anyway, they've improved no end since they were fitted a few hundred miles ago.

Wet grip is lots better than the 050s, but I'll have to experiment with pressures now.

They definitely feel 'softer'.

Any chance of using your test track Mike??

 

ive had a few sets of these and do take a while to scrub in, they just keep getting better over the 1st few hundred miles.
