Default Extra Load (XL) tyres or not

Has anyone changed from XL tyres to standard or vice versa and can advise the realistic pros and cons.

My favourite tyre for a while has been the Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics XL but my wife is complaining more and more about the very harsh ride and wonder how much the XL is contributing. I've already changed the suspension to BCs with the comfort springs.

After moving on from the original RE070s on my Spec D I have always run on XL tyres after a bad experience on my Classic when I tried a set of Toyos, can't remember which ones. They were horrendous probably owing to weak sidewalls - I couldn't wait to get them off as they felt like I had a continuous puncture.

Consequently, I'm a little nervous in spending a lot of money on some standard F1s.

Hi guys

have look on those 3 threads hopefully helps

http://www.wheels-inmotion.co.uk/for...showtopic=4495

https://www.scoobynet.com/wheels-tyr...ced-tyres.html

https://www.scoobynet.com/wheels-tyr...xl-or-not.html

But from personal experience we run only XL tyres on our wagon, which we are preferred to run,we run previously too Toyo T1R which are not best for the New age, they're great on Classic just due they're lighter than New age

But yes XL can contribute to harsher ride

Thanks,Jura

Interested in this, after days of looking at tyres it seems the eagle f1 asymmetric 2's are a great all round tyre, but do you go for the normal or the XL. I'm leaning towards the XL as a few people have commented that the sidewall on the normal is a little soft.

Not a direct answer, but over the weekend I swapped my F1 XLs for some "normal" tyres which came with some wheels I bought a while back.

On the front are some Uniroyals Rainsport 2 and on the back are Pirelli P6000s.

So far I can report the ride is not so harsh and that I'm not having a problem with the sidewalls, which is a relief after my experience with the Toyos, although I haven't pushed too hard to start with.

No idea what they will be like in wet conditions.

Further update....

I have suffered from the car running wide, principally through roundabouts or similar bends, when pushing on which definitely feels like the fronts tucking under.

Not a major issue as all it requires is a bit of a lift but with my F1s (or maybe my XLs) I can just power through without any problems.
