Default best tyres front or back?

Hi, now this being my first awd car i am unsure of where the best tyres should be. There all same brand and size, just 2 of them have about 1mm less tread, i assumed the best would go on the front, but after a horrible experience on the way home were the back just didnt want to sit straight untill i had come to a complete stop, im now questioning my judgement. Also i may be running high on tyre pressure, which wouldnt help, wouldnt be so bad if there were not a car coming the other way, and i wasnt even giving it the wellie luckily i stopped well before there were any panic about accidents but dont really want to do it again.

So basically, untill i can afford some super serious tyres, and reduce the black pearl cornering, WHAT TYRE PRESSURES AND WERE DO THE GOOD TYRES GO :/

Thank you

I, rightly or wrongly, would prefer understeer under normal day to day driving conditions. It's easier to avoid and when it does happen, much easier to control.

So, for me, I'd put the better rubber on the back end...

That said, ditch-finders will be ditch-finders wherever you put them. I had a set of 'Tornado' tyres that came on a car I bought as a run-around and they were terrifying.

The back end would let go in the wet in a heartbeat and once they'd lost traction there was literally nothing there. Even at 20mph on a wet roundabout you would take your life in your hands.

So, until you've got decent rubber on it, adjust your driving style.

Yes, tyres are expensive, but so is an accident.

I didnt find a problem untill i swapped the good tyres to the front, so i followed what you said and put them on the back now. Having said that. a few others have come a cropper due to the roads being a bit greasy round hear :/

Thanks for the reply

As far as possible on these cars, ALL FOUR tyres should have roughly the same wear.

Otherwise you risk winding up the centre diff.
