Default Do I upgrade to Porsche 6 pots or stick with Brembos? Opinions?

So I've been looking at the Porsche 6 pots as fitted to the 996/7, Powerstation recommend them as "THE best front brake upgrade available for your subaru impreza". http://www.powerstation.org.uk/porsche_brakes.asp
They are made by Brembo and seem to work very well on the Porsche plus they are reasonably cheap to buy refurbed on ebay. I emailed a specialist and he says they are a much better design than the sti four pots and will be far superior at resisting fade but the braking force itself isn't as good as the four pots? Now I don't know what to do, has anyone got any suggestion?

how is the brake force not as good? i run the powerstation kit and i fooking love it.pad choice is limited-speak with alyn @ as performance or rcm for pad options

i think pagids are the best and thats what i shall be having again.i wasnt happy with powerstations service to be fair, they dont carry any pads in stock and i had to wait for 10 people to place an order before they would order anything for me...............

i sent an old pad off to alyn to make sure the the ones i ordered were the same as they have to be machined and there is slight differences.

replacement rotors/bells you can buy from most places as its ap racing stuff.

aztec performance can get the pads aswell but i think only in ebc which i dont really rate to be fair.

i think a member on here managed to get some pads from carbon lorraine but im not sure

i run mine with braided hoses,ap racing fluid and the anti rattle shims and im happy.i have brembo sport hp pads at the min which are ok when warm but when cold or wet they aint brill so i shall be going back to the pagid black series

anyway enough talking...........................

They look dam sexual shreksta! I hadn't thought about pad availability, plan was to buy a pair of refurbed callipers, then the discs and pads elsewhere. Looks like it can be done for£1500 all in so a fair wack off powerstations price. How does the braking force compare to the 4 pot brembos in your opinion bud? I get that 6 pots will have smaller pistons than 4 pots but I don't understand why the extra 2 pistons wouldn't at least make up for the braking force if not exceed it??

couldnt tell you mate as they were on the car when i bought it.surely the servo provides the force? the braking should be better as there is alot more pad and disc surface? the pads on these are quite large and obviously the rotors are 355mm

i spoke to ian @ godspeed about these calipers as i was going to have mine re-freshed as they are 5 years old now but he says not to bother as the pistons very very rarely stick and all in all they are a very good caliper

if you buy the calipers you will need custom brackets made up and you have to run 18" rims

they are a talking point and ive had loads of comments in petrol stations etc, some bloke even lent out of his window at the traffic lights to ask me about them

To be honest its all witchcraft to me! I really don't understand what makes a braking system good or bad, or what makes one calliper more powerful than another. The custom brackets aren't a problem and I'm running 18x9.75 wheels and a newage sti master cylinder already so that side of things is sorted. I guess I'm gna have to do so serious research, thanks for your time bud

I had standard brembos on my STI and simply couldn't live with them, The car just felt too heavy, It had standard pads and discs,

I've always upgraded the brakes on my cars and when I came from a car with the scoobycliinc 6 pot set it the brembo's on my current car they just felt lacking.

I've got the powerstation set now and find it so much better. I too bought a used set off ebay which had the brackets and one bell , had godspeed refurb and supply new discs/bell. Had new pads in the deal. I think my total cost came in at around £1200.

Just make sure you get the correct calipers, plenty 6pots on there that are off the wrong model

Thanks for that buddy that's exactly what I needed to hear, I really don't get why this porsche caliper specialist advised me that the braking force would be less? He also deals with impreza brembos so I assumed he knew what he was talking about, I have seen there is a couple models of the porsche 6 pots, don't suppose you know the part numbers?

996.351.432.30
996.351.431.30

This is off calipers I bought off ebay from a GT2/3.

There hard to come by as a lot of the 6 pots are from a Cayenne.

i take it with these part numbers you should be able to buy any pad available for that type of caliper? i know they need milling to clear the bells

who made your brackets?

As Performance are making some bells and brackets to fit.
Going with PFC discs. Unsure which pad to go for yet though?
