Default Stupid Wheel Bolt Question!

Hello!

I picked up a classic the other weekend, and went to fit the new alloys the other day, and noticed that one of the wheel bolts is different to the rest. Now, I know this is normal for locking wheel nuts etc. although I haven't seen a bolt like this before (it's all rusted and aged the same as the other bolts so I believe it to be standard?).

It's essentially a rounded bolt, with a threaded center, which looks like your meant to screw something into it in order to undo the bolt.

I checked the toolkit, which only contained the standard bolt tool. Am I missing something / being stupid?

Thanks.

If theres a threaded hole in the head of the nut then it must be a left hand thread, be pointless if it was right hand thread. Get them all off and replace with new if i was you m8.

I thought as much - is there a tool for this? I'll try and get a photo of it too.

Just thread a bolt into the hole and undo if its left handed. But thinking about it its probably not left handed because you say there's a nut there which has been rounded . Try hamering a socket over it and then slowly try and undo, but dont blame me if it dont work

Ah - my bad - the bolt is round, it hasn't been rounded.

I nackered my socket set trying to remove my friends locking wheel nuts on his rx-8!

that has a pattern on the outer rim and requires a key to go over the top to undo................

Yes thats the standard locking wheel nut. You can just see the 3 points on the outside of it. I still use them, but not much longer, as I know any day the key is going to break.

The thread on the hole in the middle is just there to fit onto longer studs if necessary not for removing nut. Its just a locking nut that the key goes over the top (does look a little worn) where some insert into nut. If you cant find key which is probably under spare wheel then try tapping a smaller size socket onto it (use the black impact type sockets, they're stronger) or one of those sockets with all the pins in it that form the shape of what they're undoing.

As above, they came with stainless spring-steel covers which stopped them going like that

The key MAY be with the toolkit, which should be in the pocket in the rear trim, nearside, in the boot, where the jack is. The jack-handle is under the spare wheel cover.
