replacement for bridgestone potenza`s?
hi, just tried to get a set of bridgestone re070`s for my 03 plate wrx. F1 autocenters were the cheapest close to me, but the guy said he`d have to order them direct from bridgestone... then he gets back to me and says they are discontinued and the replacement would be the re050... he can get me a pair of re070`s from another suplier, (at more than the original price), but i need 4, and i dont really want something thats been sat on someones shelf for X years...
i`ve been very happy with the re070 that came on the car, and they were good enough for subaru to specify as an OE fitment.
so my question is if a company stops making the tyre the vehicle manufacturer recommends as standard, how do you choose a tyre thats going to be as good without just reading TyreReviews website, and going on peoples opinion of how they perform on a car thats not the same as mine? (incidentally the TyreReviews for the re070 are all positive, unlike the re050, which are not...)

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2. These are absolutely amazing. Just fitted these in 225 45 17. The grip levels are insane! They ride very well too.
Good done!

the camskills are a good price, (you would have to factor in the cost of getting them fitted) but i wont again assume anyone has any stock unless i`d either rung up or received a confirmation of order email because the F1 autocentres website listed them and would have let me place an order... however i did try another place in doncaster (D&D tyres in bentley) and they said they could get me the 225/45/17 bridgestones for the next day and they had plenty of stock at their supplier, so it just goes to show that even with all this internetting, you still need to do the legwork to make sure you get what u want... this kinda threw a spanner in my works tho cos after reading some other comments on here i`d made my mind up to go with the 225/45/17 vredestein ultrac sessanta. i went for them cos they had good reviews, and were said to be quieter than the bridgestones, they worked out £87 each fitted, and although i havent done enough mileage to wear off all the bobbles yet i must say i`m well happy with them... they have a lot of tread, they are quieter, and cos i`ve gone up from 215/45, they seem to be flattening some of the potholes out, whilst still being stiff enough in the sidewall to turn in sharply without unbearable body roll...
