Default Newage Alloys on Classic Wagon Rubbing on one Rear

Hi,

Just fitted newage five spoke 17" Alloys (225.45.17 Tyres) to my Classic Wagon.

I drove about half a mile and noticed some rubbing, the rear driverside wheel has rubbed on the shock spring cup to the extent it has actually started to melt away some of the rubber.

Stuck the space saver on it and limped it home. What I find more suprising is, that I bought these off a guy that had them on his Classic and had run that for six months in his ownership and the tyres had no wear that would indicate any rubbing what so ever.

The clearance from the lip is fine, should I consider spacers to move these out from the shock cup or is there something more amiss that I need investigate?

Cheers

Rob

Hi Rob

You will need get rolled arches at rear at least,if not then you will need to use 215/45 R17 tyres, with 225/45 you will need to have arches rolled

If its only happening on once side, you may have some camber issues, although as standard its not adjustable. You could get some camber bolts (25quid) and have it set up so it doesn't rub, or just some 5mm spacers.

Thanks for the replys.

To give a bit more understanding. It is not rubbing on the arch lip, but against the shock as in there is no gap. On the other side there is about 20mm gap between the shock, tight but acceptable.

I am going to strip the side down that is missbehaving and try and inspect to see what is causing this camber issue.

I happen to know of a guy breaking a classic saloon currently, are the suspension, hub parts etc interchangeable?
