Default Break upgrade for 3rd generation WRX

Just bought my first Impreza....2010 WRX-S hatchback. Really enjoying it

Having test driven the STI the standard WRX brakes are a little disappointing. I believe the WRX-S has 2 pots on the front and 1 pots on the back with 18" alloys. I was thinking to upgrade to 4 pots on the front and 2 pots on the back. I will not be doing anything on the track...just fast road!

There are quite a number of 2nd gen 4 pots (+2 pots for rear) on eBay and the like....will they fit? Saw a nice set of gold Brembro's from a 2nd gen...think they would look nice behind the dark rims.

Would a set of 3rd gen STI brakes fit?

For either of the above would the alloys need changed?

Thanks for your help!

Hi there

Personally I would spend little bit more and go with Brembo, used Brembo doesn't cost too much and with right pads and discs are very good upgrade

Hi Jura, thanks for your reply. Do you know if Brembro's from a 2nd gen WRX would be a direct replacement for the 3rd gen WRX? I think my current discs are 294mm...if I put Brembro's on could I increase the disc size?

Brembo only been on STI,on yours you will be probably need from earlier STI 01-04, which are 5x100

Yes with Brembo you will have bigger size(326mm) of the discs, you can buy whole set sometimes over here from breakers for good price

Hi Jura,
Just sorted myself out with a set of gold Brembo's from a 2003 Sti...gave Godspeed a call to sort me out with some discs, pads etc and they don't reckon the gold brembos will fit on the back of my 2010 hatchback. Have you done this before? If so, what was required....bolt straight on, brackets etc???
Many thanks,
Jonathan.

Speak to Alyn@AS Performance,he will be able help you with any queries about the brakes and pads plus machining works(if needs to be done, which still think you don't need to do any modifications)

The calipers they fit on the rear of the WRX hatch are the STi hatch rears , the black ones , not the gold ones as they have different spacings , the gold rears will not fit .

Even though Jura says they will fit , he obviously didn't notice his own link showing the guy fitting the hatch Sti rear discs and calipers to his WRX , give API a ring as I know they have loads of the rear hatch Sti calipers

Cheers Ian
