Default Tyres for tack days

Hi all

I am a bit stuck as to what to do.

At the moment, I have a set of PPF7's in 18x8.0 on the car with some ok tyres (can't rememeber what). I also have a set of standard STI wheels in the shed which are 17x8.0 and have about 50% used Pirelli P6000's on them which have done a couple of track days with by the previous owner.

I have booked to go on a two day track day at Le Mans in August and have the following option for tyres:

Stick with the 18's
Stick the 17's on
Buy a set of used Toyo R888 in 235/40/17 with about 3mm tread left on them for £300 and put them on the 17's (been used by a mate for 3 track days).
Buy a set of used Pirelli RS5 Hard compound slicks in 225/625/17 for £250 and put them on the 17's (i have been told that they have been used for testing and have plenty of wear left in them).
Buy a set of used WTCC 17 slicks with good tread left on them for around £300.
Buy another set of 17's with 80% left Pirelli P6000's for £180.

What would you recommend as I hear different opinions from different people!

The car is a 2006 Hawkeye STI with around 375bhp and I will be upgrading the brakes and putting in bucket seats with harnesses.

I would keep away from the slicks must put stress on all parts of the car.

R888 sounds a good deal

I am thinking about getting both the slicks and the R888's. I would put the R888's on the 17's I have and drive down to the track with them on the car. I would put the slicks on my mates 17's and put them in the back of the car and try both on the track to see which are better.

The car is quite sorted with quite a few uprated parts.

Not sure if this is sensible or not.

I am just cautious as to how long the R888's will last. As it's a two day event, I would hate to wear them out on the 1st days.

Beware of oil surge on slicks on grippy tarmac.

Don't buy yet more P6000s kill the ones you have here in the UK first !

R888's are a tad noisy on a road car, but I loved them.
