Default Yet another brake upgrade question

I know this has been done to death, but just looking for a little insight as to what works best.
I've recently bought a totally standard 2001 wrx sport wagon as a daily driver and to be honest the brakes are ****e, I had to replace the rears straight away as they were really bad, so I've just fitted pagid discs and pads, but seeing as most of the braking is done by the fronts I would like a bit more info on the best set up.
It's purely going to be road use and the only mods I will be doing will be air filter, exhaust and a remap, so not huge power gains but sufficient for my needs around the roads.
But obviously I need to know it's going to stop when I press the middle pedal.
So, would better discs and pads be enough, or would it be calipers as well.

depends on your budget first step is decent pads and discs and possibly braided hoses.
next upgrade could be some sti brembos but make sure your wheels will fit over the calipers.
then a big brake upgrade but your talking 1k as a starting point.

First off, ask either Ian Godney, (at Godspeed), or Alyn Stockton (at AS Performance), for advice re the best disc/pad combination. remember to say what sort of driving, what sort of power, if you intend trackdays etc.

You could also look into having the brake bias mod done, where the brake bias valve is removed It makes the rears do FAR more work and on mine, makes the car stop better and flatter.

Ideally not looking at spending thousands to start with, but realise you get what you pay for.
So I suppose discs and pads first, then if these are not to my liking I can go down the braided lines/caliper route.
Regarding the brake bias valve, is this a difficult job to do, and does it involve any parts to replace where the valve is fitted.

Decent Disc and pads braided hoses and a fluid change, and it should be job done on your car if your not really looking massive power and your car is just being used for the road. You should not really have to go down the big brake or caliper route.SJ.
