"Warped discs" - What brake upgrade?
I've got what apears to be a warped disc as the steering wheel judders under hard braking - especially at speed. I've heard that a warped disc can be a bit of a myth and the discs can be skimmed to solve the problem, is this true? I've also heard that the problem can be related to the pads or calipers and can come back - can anyone clear this up?
Therefore i've been looking at replacing the front brake setup (assuming the problem is the front brakes) and looking at the following packages advertised on here and would like some advice as to which would be most suitable:
1. https://www.scoobynet.com/trader-ann...-packages.html These are pretty much the same as what I have now, would it be silly to buy the same again when there are much better setups for very little more cash?
2. https://www.scoobynet.com/group-buys...group-buy.html I suppose these would be a slight improvement given the grooves?
3. https://www.scoobynet.com/trader-ann...ded-lines.html or do i spend just that little bit more, and get the whole setup upgraded.
4. https://www.scoobynet.com/trader-ann...uid-195-a.html as above - would this be overkill or is a steal? It looks it to me.
I'm liking the idea of changing to a better brake setup but don't want to spend more than £150-£200, plus I've not got the skills to fit this myself. It's a 2003 STI, it's a daily driver and doesn't get any track use. Will i really see a difference in the more expensive discs and pads? Do I really need better fluid and braided lines?
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks.

So I'd say ya can't go wrong with a cheaper set from Camskill IMO.

Hi
Yes discs can be skimmed to true them back up if they are warped , as long as there is enough life left in the discs , once they are down from 30mm thick new to 28mm they need changing , so if they are close to this , if you pay to have them skimmed , you will be paying out shortly after for new ones anyway.
If you have shaking in the steering wheel , then it will be the fronts that are causing the problem , can you see how much pad material is left , and is there a lip on the outer edge of the discs showing they are worn ?
Brake fluid should be changed every 18 months as it will absorb moisture into the system , if you drive hard or do track days then it will need changing more frequently.
Braided hoses will help the pedal feel , a standard hose softens over time so will give a spongier pedal feel , as the braided hoses have no rubber content they cannot soften so will keep a more solid feel to the brake pedal.
We offer various packages to suit all drivers and budgets , so I guess its up to you on how far you want to go.
Cheers Ian
